March 5, 2009 Governor’s Arts Awards a program of the Nevada Art Council and the Office of the Governor Governor Jim Gibbons, the Nevada Arts Council and Sierra Arts welcome you to the 29th Annual Governor’s Arts Awards. Inaugurated in 1979 as the Decade Awards, the Governor’s Arts Awards became an annual event the following year. Through this program, the Nevada Arts Council and the Office of the Governor recognize outstanding and enduring contributions to Nevada through artistic achievement and service to the arts. Dear Friends: For 29 years, the Governor’s Arts Awards program has recognized outstanding achievements in the arts by artists and educators, arts organizations, corporate and individual patrons, public figures and dedicated volunteers. This year we honor our fellow citizens who demonstrate commitment, creativity, and passion. It is a privilege to publicly acknowledge Nevadans of this caliber. Though I can’t be with you tonight, I send my best wishes for a wonderful evening to you all and congratulations to tonight’s honored award recipients - Dr. James Winn, Doug Groves, Reno Philharmonic Association, Las Vegas Youth Orchestras, Jane and Robert Fielden, and Estipona Group.
