Automotive manufacturers warn against using plastic containers because
they let moisture into the oil. In ASC AirCon Service Centers fresh oil is stored
moisture-free in laminate bags contained in protective metal cylinders. No
blockage of valves, no solvent penetration!

The integrated charging amount database
The database contains many vehicle-specific data. The type of oil and the
precise amount of oil and refrigerant to be used for specific vehicles are shown
on the display. Updates of the WAECO flash memory card are made available on
a regular basis for fast and simple updating of vehicle-specific data.

Fully automatic AirCon Service Center for all AirCon
specialists. This unit has all it takes to perform standard
service work on automotive air conditioners.
With quick-start function: simply enter the amount
of refrigerant to be charged, make a total of three
input instructions, and the unit will automatically do
all the required functions:

Time is valuable, especially when it comes to air conditioning
service on large vehicles such as buses and
rail cars where downtimes are extremely costly for
the operators. Speed and reliability are vital. Key
service tasks such as refrigerant recovery, evacuation
and refrigerant recharging need to be performed in a
tight timeframe. The ASC3000 perfectly meets these
requirement. Its 2-stage vacuum pump evacuates
132 litres per minute. An additional fluid pump
ensures fast refrigerant recharging.

A defective air conditioning compressor can have serious
consequences. It often occurs that abrasion particles from the compressor
enter the air conditioning system. The abrasion particles
then circulate within the refrigerant circuit and build up over time.
This can lead to time consuming and costly repairs, because all
components in contact with refrigerant usually need to be replaced.
The newly developed universal flush bottle as well as the flush
adapter kit provide a cost-effective solution in such cases. Using
the innovative equipment, which is approved by leading vehicle
manufacturers, you can flush the entire air conditioning circuit
without having to remove a single component. Just fit a new
refrigerant compressor and the air conditioner is ready for use
again.
The universal flush bottle can also be used with other manufacturers'
A/C service units. In that case the flush process needs to be
controlled manually, though. The following WAECO service units
already come with a software for automatic flush control: RHS-
1050 A/C service units from series 1..., AirCon Service Centers
ASC1000, ASC2000, ASC2000 RPA and ASC 3000.
To use the flush function of these A/C service units, just retrofit the

Working clean:
It pays to flush!
Professional service on automotive A/C
systems naturally also includes flushing the
system to clear away aggressive substances
and contaminants from the refrigerant
circuit. Flushing protects all parts of the air
conditioner from damage, most notably the
compressor being its core component.
You will never get a hundred per cent clean
refrigerant circuit, though. This is because of
the parallel flow evaporator technology commonly
used these days. Our recommendation:
add a chip filter to the suction line
when you flush the system. This will protect

Contaminants harm the air conditioner –
the oil checker detects this danger
An air conditioner's performance stands or falls with the
state of the refrigerant oil. Serious damage is often
caused by contaminated oil containing abrasive particles
or metal chips.
Another common source of failure is refrigerant leakage
leading to overheating of the refrigerant oil and hence
to impaired lubrication. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary
to check the compressor oil before repair work is
started.
The oil checker is a safe and simple tool for "oil sampling"
in automotive air conditioners. It is simply
connected to the A/C system's two service ports.

Recycle Guard
Protecting your service unit from sealant
contamination
Caution: Sealant additives may cause damage to air conditioners and
service equipment!
Over the last few years additives have been launched to
the market that are claimed to be able to seal minor
leaks. Caution is advised here, however: sealants may
cure within the system, which may lead to blockages
and cause damage, e.g. to the dryer and expansion
valve. For this reason, WAECO does not use any sealant
additives!
Sealants can also harm your A/C service unit. For
example, a vehicle coming in for service may already
have leak sealants in the air conditioning system.
During refrigerant recovery the sealant will enter – and
possibly damage – your recycling unit.
Recycling units have various areas where moisture accumulates
(e.g. filters, dryers, oil separators). These areas
are especially susceptible to sealant build-up, which
can cause serious damage to your valuable equipment.
The Recycle Guard protects your A/C service station
from sealant contamination. This special filter is
connected to the unit’s service hoses where it reliably
separates and removes the sealant from the refrigerant.

Evacuation of automotive air conditioners
Evacuation of automotive A/C systems has to be done with vacuum pumps designed for the purpose. A
too fast evacuation by means of over-dimensional vacuum pumps will lead to icing of residual moisture in the
air conditioning system and consequently to system malfunctions.

Today's automotive A/C systems only have a maximum volume of 3 litres of air.
Therefore, only 3 litres of air per minute will flow through the service coupler during the evacuation process.

Refrigerant leakage harms both the air
conditioner and the environment. In Germany
alone, a total of 3,000 tonnes of refrigerant
leaked from automotive A/C systems during
operation in 2007. For good reason therefore,
leak detection equipment plays a major role in
our product range for A/C professionals. Here
is a short overview of the methods available.

UV leak detection – here’s how it works
A special leak detection additive is injected into the refrigerant
circuit. The piping is then examined using a UV leak detection lamp.
When exposed to UV light, the fluorescent fluid escaping through
leaks begins to glow and thus becomes visible. It works perfectly
even on greasy engines and also over some distance (e.g. within
the engine compartment). There’s no need to hold the UV lamp
directly over the leaks. What really counts in effective leak detection
is the UV intensity and wave length spectrum of the UV lamp
combined with the right composition of the additive. Practical for
quick checks in-between, the additives can indefinitely remain
in the system after the leak test. For many years WAECO has
recommended its partners to use the tried and tested TRACERLINE ®
UV leak detection system. TRACERLINE ® works not just with
refrigerants, it can also be used for detecting leaks in other fluid
circuits.
Only use solvent-free leak detection additives!
Solvent containing UV additives harm the air conditioner and
your service equipment! UV leak detection additives are well proven
worldwide, because they are fast and easy to use providing
high leak detection accuracy at favourable prices. When buying a
leak detection additive, make sure you get a quality product!
Many preparations available on the market contain solvents
which may impair the refrigerant oil's lubricating ability.
Moreover, poor quality additives may cause wear on the seals in
the air conditioner as well as in the A/C service unit.
Example: Some manufacturers add a solvent named "Aromatic
200" to their UV additives. Originally developed as a solvent
for lacquers and also used for pest control, this solvent is not
suitable for use in automotive air conditioners. It can damage the
air conditioner! Moreover, it contains the dangerous substance
naphthalene. As it stands now, there is only one single UV
additive available that was specially formulated for use with
refrigerant oils (PAG, mineral oil, ester) and is therefore absolutely
solvent-free: TRACER ® . This additive is very gentle and
economical, it was purpose-designed for use in automotive air
conditioners. Only high-grade air conditioner oils are used as base
material for the production of TRACER ® leak detection additives.
When applied properly, these additives are absolutely safe to
use in any vehicle air conditioner or A/C service equipment.

UV leak detection
Decreasing refrigerant charging amounts in automotive air conditioners
require more sensitive UV leak detection equipment.
Therefore, Tracer has introduced a new Tracerline ® LED technology
with its new TP-8690 series. The advantage about this new technology
is the improved fluorescent reflection of the UV additive in
the colour spectrum visible to the human eye. This colour spectrum
covers the entire blue range (A) of the diagram shown above.
Conventional leak detection usually come with halogen lights,
which are unable to show the complete reflection range visible to
the human eye (see also diagram range B). The new LED leak
detection technology cuts the time of inspection and increases the
sensitivity of detection.

Example: Some manufacturers add a solvent named "Aromatic
200" to their UV additives. Originally developed as a solvent for
lacquers and also used for pest control, this solvent is not suitable
for use in automotive air conditioners. It can damage the
air conditioner! Moreover, it contains the dangerous substance
naphthalene.
As it stands now, there is only one single UV additive available
that was specially developed for use with refrigerant oils (PAG,
mineral oil, ester) and is therefore absolutely solvent-free:
TRACER ® . This additive is very gentle and economical, it was
purpose-designed for use in automotive air conditioners. Only
high-grade air conditioner oils are used as base material for the
production of TRACER ® leak detection additives. When applied
properly, these additives are absolutely safe to use in any
vehicle air conditioner or A/C service equipment.

For a fresh and healthy climate in the vehicle – a safe
way to stop bad odours caused by bacteria and mould
Regular maintenance is essential to guarantee
impeccable operation of an automotive air conditioning
system. Even if this is provided, a musty smell
may enter the passenger compartment. The reason for
this is the combined presence of heat, moisture and
darkness as it naturally occurs on the fine fins of the
evaporator. These conditions provide an ideal breeding
ground for bacteria, mould, pollen and other microorganisms,
which are the source of the smell problem.
Breathing the musty air is not just unpleasant in itself,
it can entail health risks. Here again, prevention is better
than cure. Regular cleaning and disinfection of the
evaporator surface is the best method to get clean,
cool air and keep germs away.
Removing deposits from the evaporator surface
Using a spray head, the A/C cleaner is evenly applied to the
evaporator surface. There’s no need to dismount the evaporator.
This method removes deposits that would otherwise give rise
to bacteria. At the same time, it improves the efficiency of the
automotive air conditioner.
Anti-bacterial coating
Without having to dismantle the evaporator, you simply cover its
surface with a micro-fine film of AIRSEPT ® using the compressed air
pistol. The salts contained in the film settle on the surface to form
a long-lasting protective barrier against micro-organisms.

Replacing the air filter
In addition to cleaning the evaporator, it is also important to check

Digital pressure measurement
Leaking refrigerant circuits are the most frequent cause of
reclaims on automotive A/C systems. Leaks are most likely to
occur on the condenser (fitted unprotected in front of the radiator),
but also on the compressor (shaft seal). Damage to these
components leads to refrigerant leaking to an extent that only a
small quantity remains in the system. Using a digital hand-held
pressure meter, for instance, you can determine the pressure of
the A/C system straight away when checking the vehicle on
reception. You will also know from the digital display when the
A/C system is empty.
Temperature measurement with an external probe
Measuring the air outlet temperature at the vehicle’s air vents is
inevitable if you want to assess the performance of the air conditioner.
In A/C systems with anti-icing thermostat, you will also
have to check the thermostat’s cut-in and cut-off functions. Jobs
like these call for a thermometer with a slim probe and a long
supply cable, because it allows the temperature to be measured
directly in the heating or A/C ventilation system.
Infrared temperature measurement
Infrared thermometers allows contact-free measurement of
surface temperatures. This makes them ideal for measurements
on the entire air conditioning system. They can be used, for
instance, to determine the air outlet temperature at the vents, or
for quick temperature checks on the condenser surface or heat
exchanger. Infrared hand-held thermometers are also available
with an integrated laser pointer for precise positioning of the
