Capacity building
The City has focused on
building capacity and strength
into our human resources in
2008-09 in order to achieve
greater organisational
effectiveness.
The structure of the
organisation has been
streamlined and initiatives have
been introduced to strengthen
key areas such as compliance
and governance to ensure
the principles of integrity,
transparency, collaboration and
accountability underpin the daily
decision making of employees.
Training and career development
Emphasis has been placed on developing employees to their fullest potential
to lead and deliver on performance targets in line with corporate objectives.
Where opportunities exist to improve services, processes and efficiency,
the City has provided appropriate training programs. Training and
development needs are being identified from performance assessment and
developmental programs offered.
In 2008-09, work began on an employee retention plan and policy to
ensure succession planning and to create opportunities for employees to
establish career paths within the City. Recognition of intellectual knowledge
retention within the City has become an important indicator in employee
succession planning.
