Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/MT), ASCP
I have performed thousands of clinical tests over a period of nine years in the laboratory
field. I possess in-depth knowledge of CAP, Joint Commission, AABB, and OSHA
regulations governing day-to-day activity with multiple inspections behind me. I have
experience in the stress and testing volume of both large and small facilities in any
position in which placed. I am a proven instructor with past students still active in the
laboratory field serving at community hospitals, major trauma centers and overseas at
combat support hospitals.
Experience
United States Army (Nov. 2002 to Present)
As a MT and non-commissioned officer (SSG), I have served in many diverse
assignments including community hospital work, combat support hospitals and
culminating in blood bank shift supervisor at a 500+ bed level 1 trauma/teaching
hospital. At Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, TX, I served as a shift
supervisor in immunology with a total staff of greater than 20 personal. At
BAMC I was responsible and accountable for conducting inventory and ordering
of supplies with over $400,000 in annual budget, shift accountability and various
other assignments. During this time I was trained and certified to be a military
instructor. I served as an on-the-job coordinator and training instructor for a
NAACLS approved course. During the year that I performed this duty, I trained
more than 40 students in blood bank and donor services. I have also served at two
community hospitals through the military, and filled all clinical roles at these
facilities (chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis and body fluids, blood
bank/immunology).
Jewish Hospital and St. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital (Jan. 2008 – May 2011)
As a MT at this facility I served as evening shift blood bank supervisor
responsible for shift training and implementation of new policies and procedures
for 13 techs. The overall blood bank supervisor wrote these policies. In this
capacity, I was directly answerable to the overall 2 nd shift supervisory. While my
emphasis at this job was blood bank, I also conducted testing and stayed current
in all typical areas of clinical work (chemistry, hematology, microbiology,
urinalysis and body fluids, blood bank/immunology) with thousands of verified
tests every year.
South Bend Medical Foundation, South Bend, IN. (Nov. 2004 to Aug. 2005)
As a MLT for this organization I filled roles in the Blood Bank and Blood Donor
Testing center. Further, I worked at Memorial Hospital, South Bend IN (Level 2
Trauma Center) through the foundation where I performed point of care testing,
and supervised phlebotomy teams within the hospital.
