Modern Logistics for the
Middle East
Among the currently most important tasks in Warehouse Logistics, a
good WMS and knowledge are nowadays the key words for a
successful market in the Middle East. We spoke with Ramon Thoms,
regional manager of Ehrhardt + Partner Solutions about how his
company will cover these tasks in the Middle East.
Editorial- What prompted the company EPS to establish a presence in the
ME Region?
Ramon- Back in 2006 the news of the setup of a global logistics hub in
Dubai was brought to our intention. Being one of the world leaders in offering
full service logistic solutions we decided to be part of this global vision,
linking air and sea freight within one big freezone, called the Dubai Logistic
City. For our management it was out of question to participate in this global
vision. Linking all five continents in one central location, enabling freight
forwarders to reach each and every worldwide destination within less than 8
hours would lead the concept to success. Being part of this vision, helping
DLC and the local market in the Middle East to fulfill the challenge is our
driving motivation.
Editorial- What are you hoping to achieve with the training Center in Dubai?
Ramon- The new established training Center in Dubai, called the “Logistic
Solutions Center” should help to drive logistic education in the Middle East to
a yet until unknown new level. The demonstration of modern logistic
processes, modern WMS software, the look and feel of integrated newest
picking-technology and much more should enable participants, students,

companies and governmental bodies to learn how to solve the logistic
challenges of the 21st century. The Middle East has to catch up with the rest
of the world in terms of international logistic standards, transparency and
cost efficiency. We want to achieve a new awareness of logistic processes
and services to help the Middle East to reach the given goal of being the
Worlds centralized logistic hub.
Editorial- Do you think that companies in the Middle East are willing to
invest in warehouse modernization?
Ramon- Frankly speaking: They have to. Currently it is common practice to
solve logistical problems by increasing the number of warehouse staff. But:
More stuff leads to higher costs, more manual management, more possible
mistakes and more necessary control of the existing manual processes. The
current lack of knowledge of the existing logistic mid management here in the
Middle East leads decision makers to wrong decisions, as current
investments in software-tools and no technology will for sure not pay off.
Completely the contrary is happening: in 2-3 years those companies will
again invest huge amounts of money to correct their wrong decision.
It is now the right time to invest into logistics, to modernize warehouse
processes and to streamline the complete Supply Chain. The investment will
definitely pay off as those companies, having invested now, will have a
tremendous competitive edge compared to the rest of the market and they
will gain the lead within their business sector.
EPS is the right partner for all those who want to invest in warehouse
modernization and want to be a leader in their market. Our existing

Editorial- How has EPS Warehouse Management System helped to improve

Ramon- Well, our Warehouse Management System LFS helps customers to
