YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS Available to 4-H Members & Non-Members 2013 CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL FARM SHOW YOUTH IN AGRICULTURE BURSARY Application deadline: February 15th, 2013 A $1,000 bursary will be awarded to a student currently in their first year of an agricultural related program at an accredited Canadian university or college. Applicants must show both academic achievement and financial need, and must not have reached the age of 30 before January 1st, 2013. Strong preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate rural leadership or strong community involvement in organizations like the Junior Farmers’ Association of Ontario. This bursary is presented by Master Promotions Ltd. in partnership with the JFAO. More details are available at www.jfao.on.ca/scholarships. FARM MANAGEMENT CANADA EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR AG STUDENTS Application deadline: February 28, 2013 Each year, the Canadian Farm Business Management Council collects submissions from agricultural students across Canada and awards three winners $1,000 towards furthering their education in agriculture. The award is designed to help students develop their communication skills by voicing their opinion on a on a subject related to farm management. Applicants submit videos responding to the following question: why is innovation an important aspect of a farm’s success; and, how can farm business management be innovative? ONTARIO WOMEN’S INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIPS Application deadline: April 1, 2013 Up to three awards of $1,000 each to assist students studying at the University of Guelph College of Social & Applied Human Sciences. Since 1947, these Scholarships have been presented by FWIO in recognition of the women who pioneered the Women’s Institute in Ontario. For more details visit www.fwio.on.ca. MONSANTO FUND OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Application deadline: May 24, 2013 A $1,500 award for students entering their first year of post-secondary education in a Canadian college or university, in agriculture or an agriculture-related field. FEDERATED WOMEN’S INSTITUTES OF ONTARIO PROVINCIAL SCHOLARSHIP Application deadline: June 1, 2013 A $1,000 scholarship for full-time students entering a first year post-secondary institution. Application includes a 500 word essay on the topic of “How can youth have a voice in rural communities?”, and three reference letters from the applicant’s community or school. FEDERATED WOMEN’S INSTITUTES OF ONTARIO HELEN MCKERCHER SCHOLARSHIP Application deadline: June 30, 2013 A $1,200 scholarship to assist an undergraduate student who has completed his/her program to pursue a postgraduate degree in Family and Consumer Studies, Home Economics or a related program. This scholarship was established in 1976 to recognize Helen McKercher’s years of service to FWIO as Director of the Women’s Institute and Home Economics Service. JERSEY CANADA SCHOLARSHIP Application deadline: September 1, 2013 The Youth Committee of Jersey Canada provides one scholarship per year in the amount of $750 to a deserving university or college student who is enrolled in at least the second year of post-secondary studies and has an $ DON’T MISS OUT ON ANY SCHOLARSHIPS! THE CANADIAN MERIT SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION LORAN AWARD Application deadline: October 2013 The Loran Scholar program is for students in their graduating year of uninterrupted full-time studies in high school or CEGEP. Exceptions may be considered for those who have undertaken a gap year for academic pursuits or community service-based activities. The award is renewable for up to four years, and includes an annual tuition waiver and stipend of $9,000, access to $8,500 in funding and internships through the summer program, a week-long group orientation expedition, participation in annual scholars’ retreat and forums and mentorship opportunities. For details visit www.loranaward.ca. HOLSTEIN CANADA EDUCATION AWARDS Application deadline: November 30, 2013 Awards of $750 available to post-secondary students. ONTARIO SHEEP MARKETING AGENCY SCHOLARSHIP Application deadline: Contact OSMA A $500 scholarship for youth under 21 years old who either belong to a 4-H Sheep Club, or have a parent/ guardian who is registered as an OSMA producer, or who are registered producers themselves. Applicants must also be entering their first or second year of a university, college or apprenticeship program, not limited to agriculture. GROWING FORWARD BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES PROGRAM Partially funded by Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada through the Growing Forward Policy Framework This program supports projects reflecting the philosophy and objectives of 4-H, in the following categories: learning and development activities related to leadership, citizenship, and life skills, business skills, and technical skills; design and development of educational programs and/or course and presentation materials; design, development, production and distribution of magazines, marketing packages, supplies, or awards; surveys or other information collection for needs analysis and planning future activities; conferences and special events; and promotional activities. AGRIUM 4-H YOUTH LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE Sponsored by: Agrium A total of $50,000 is available to eligible 4-H clubs, provinces, regions, districts and counties that seek to develop leadership skills in senior 4-H members. Eligible project areas available for funding include youth asset building, career planning, communication skills training and organization leadership. This grant provides the ability to develop programs that will challenge senior 4-H members to apply their leadership skills to enhance their local communities. SEARS IN YOUR COMMUNITY 4-H CLUB GRANTS Sponsored by: Sears The Sears In Your Community 4-H Club Grants Program provides funding support to 4-H groups that offer afterschool programs so youth can have fun while developing leadership, citizenship and life skills in a positive and safe environment. The grant program is available for any 4-H club in Canada, with each club eligible to receive up to $1,000. The program supports five types of requests: new programs; enhancement of existing programs; development of existing programs in a new location; sustaining existing programs; and support for ongoing educational workshops related to projects (e.g. public speaking, showmanship, judging, animal care, grooming skills). NOLA BROWN SCHOLARSHIP Application deadline: September 20, 2013 The recipient must be connected to the Jersey business or keenly interested and involved with the Jersey cow. The recipient will also be a student entering or continuing college or university. The post-secondary program does not have to be agriculture related. The scholarship is for $1,500.
