Menschen anwendet: einen anderen Menschen - seine Nähe,
seine Stimme, sein Wort und seinen Beistand. Die verstehende,
einfühlende Nähe des Beichtseelsorgers, sein Zuhören,
Annehmen und Raten, sein orientierendes Wort - ”all das kann
Wunder wirken: das Wunder, daß ein Mensch wieder Hoffnung
bekommt und Zuversicht, das Wunder, daß er plötzlich wieder
erkennt, wie er seinen Weg weitergehen kann, das Wunder, daß
er sich befreit und wie neugeboren fühlt” 111 . So kann die
göttliche Therapie am Menschen im Bußsakrament weiter
vollzogen werden, womit der Heilige Alphons einen
wesentlichen Beitrag für seine Mitbrüder Redemptoristen und
für die Beichtpraxis überhaupt geleistet hat.

Summary / Resumen
Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori was proclaimed Patron of
Moralists and Confessors in 1950 by Pope Pius 12 th . For Saint
Alphonsus the confessor’s function is to be understood as a therapeutic
ministry: this is clear from the Praxis Confessarii (1757). The role of
the confessor is, above all, that of a therapeutic and fatherly attitude
which seeks to heal rather than to judge. This approach fits in well with
the contemporary understanding of the sacrament as one of
reconciliation. It is to be understood as a sacrament of healing
salvation, and the confessor communicates this through his general
attitude and the welcoming atmosphere which he creates. For these
reasons, the alphonsian approach to celebrating the sacrament of
reconciliation can be of great practical value in contemporary ministry.
