F-223 Abuse. The resident has the right to be free from<br />
verbal, sexual, physical, and mental abuse, corporal<br />
punishment, and involuntary seclusion.<br />
F-224 Treatment of Residents & Their Property. The facility<br />
must identify residents whose personal histories render<br />
them at risk for abusing other residents, and<br />
development of intervention strategies to prevent<br />
occurrences, monitoring for changes that would trigger<br />
abusive behavior, and reassessment of the interventions<br />
on a regular basis.<br />
F-225 Employ Individuals Guilty of Abuse. The facility must<br />
not employ individuals who have been found guilty of<br />
abusing, neglecting or mistreating residents by a court<br />
of law.<br />
F-226 Policy & Procedure on Abuse. The facility must<br />
develop and implement policies and procedures that<br />
include screening and training employees, protection of<br />
residents and for the prevention, identification,<br />
investigation, and reporting of abuse, neglect,<br />
mistreatment and misappropriation of property.<br />

F-240 Quality of Life. The facility must care for its residents<br />
in a manner and in an environment that promotes<br />
maintenance or enhancement of each resident’s quality<br />
of life.<br />
F-241 Dignity. The facility must promote care for residents in<br />
a manner and in an environment that maintains or<br />
enhances each resident’s dignity and respect in full<br />
recognition of his or her individuality.<br />
F-242 <strong>Self</strong>-Determination/Participation. The resident has the<br />
right to:<br />
1. Choose activities, schedules, and health care<br />
consistent with his/her interests, assessments and plans<br />
of care;<br />
2. Interact with members of the community both inside<br />
and outside the facility;<br />
3. Make choices about aspects of his/her life in the<br />
facility that are significant to the resident.<br />
F-243 Participate in Resident/Family Groups. The resident<br />
has the right to organize and participate in resident<br />
groups and/or meet with the families of other residents.<br />
