Graduation Requirements<br />

1. Satisfactory completion <strong>of</strong> 28 credit hours that includes all required<br />

courses.<br />

2. Satisfactory completion <strong>of</strong> 700 hours <strong>of</strong> supervised practicum (that<br />

includes at least 350 hours <strong>of</strong> direct client contact).<br />

3. A cumulative grade point average <strong>of</strong> 3.0 or higher with no more<br />

than one grade (or 3 credit hours) <strong>of</strong> “C.”<br />

4. Successful portfolio review at the end <strong>of</strong> required coursework.<br />

5. Completion <strong>of</strong> Application for Graduation and full payment <strong>of</strong> any<br />

outstanding tuition or other fees.<br />

6. Faculty approval for graduation and recommendation to the Board <strong>of</strong><br />

Trustees for the conferral <strong>of</strong> the Concentration/Certificate in Art<br />

Therapy.<br />

Doctoral Concentration in<br />

Marriage and Family Therapy<br />

<strong>Adler</strong> <strong>School</strong> doctoral students working toward the Psy.D. in psychology<br />

may pursue specialized training in Marriage and Family Therapy concurrently<br />

with their doctoral work by fulfilling the requirements for the concentration in<br />

marriage and family therapy. Previous graduates <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Adler</strong> Psy.D. program<br />

may also return to pursue a formal specialized concentration such as MFT.<br />

Although not required, <strong>Adler</strong> <strong>School</strong> doctoral students, who are completing<br />

this concentration program, are highly encouraged to carry out a dissertation<br />

that is focused on some aspect <strong>of</strong> marriage and family studies and therapy.<br />

Course Requirements<br />

The concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy requires the following<br />

15 credits <strong>of</strong> coursework. Some substitution may be possible with the approval<br />

<strong>of</strong> the program director.<br />

523 <strong>Adler</strong>ian Approaches to Individual and Family Therapy 3 cr.<br />

651 Assessment and Treatment from a Systemic Perspective 3 cr.<br />

652 Life Cycle and Cultural Issues in Marriage and Family Therapy 3 cr.<br />

655 Advanced Couples Therapy 3 cr.<br />

663 Effective Marriage and Family Therapy 3 cr.<br />

Total Credit Hours: 15<br />
