The <strong>School</strong>: An Overview<br />
The <strong>Adler</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>Psychology</strong> (<strong>Adler</strong> <strong>School</strong>) was established<br />
in 1952 and is a private, not-for-pr<strong>of</strong>it institution <strong>of</strong> higher education. With a<br />
commitment to continuing the work <strong>of</strong> the first community Psychologist, Alfred<br />
<strong>Adler</strong>, the <strong>Adler</strong> <strong>School</strong> holds the following values as core to our educational<br />
programs: social interest, compassion, justice, respect for the individual, honor<br />
for diversity and difference, intellectual rigor, optimism, collaboration, and<br />
pragmatism. The <strong>School</strong> is an independent school <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional psychology,<br />
drawing students from North America and internationally.<br />
While enjoying international recognition for the expertise <strong>of</strong> its faculty and<br />
excellence <strong>of</strong> its educational programs, the <strong>School</strong> has established an<br />
outstanding reputation for innovation within its educational programs,<br />
institutes, and community and clinical services. This record <strong>of</strong> innovation was<br />
recognized in the <strong>School</strong>’s receiving the 2007 Award for Innovative Practices in<br />
Graduate Education in <strong>Psychology</strong> sponsored by the Board <strong>of</strong> Educational<br />
Affairs and Council <strong>of</strong> Graduate Departments in <strong>Psychology</strong> <strong>of</strong> the American<br />
Psychological Association. The <strong>Adler</strong> <strong>School</strong> learning community is comprised <strong>of</strong><br />
persons <strong>of</strong> diverse cultures, ages, educational backgrounds, personal interests,<br />

The <strong>School</strong>’s Mission<br />
The <strong>Adler</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>Psychology</strong> is an institution <strong>of</strong> higher<br />
education committed to advancing the values and theories <strong>of</strong> Alfred <strong>Adler</strong><br />
within the context <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional psychology. To this end, the <strong>School</strong>’s mission<br />
is to provide quality pr<strong>of</strong>essional education, psychological services, community<br />
services, and research, anticipating and responding to the constant and<br />
changing needs <strong>of</strong> students, the pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> psychology, the community, and<br />
society. The values held by <strong>Adler</strong> <strong>School</strong> as relevant to its mission, include the<br />

• The broad application <strong>of</strong> the philosophy, principles, and techniques <strong>of</strong><br />
Alfred <strong>Adler</strong> in particular and psychology in general to mental health,<br />
medicine, education, business and industry, and other related areas <strong>of</strong><br />

for independent judgment and creative thought, educational<br />
