Erikson’s life cycle model and positive mental health. Dr. Westermeyer has been<br />

conducting a 48 year prospective follow-up <strong>of</strong> men initially selected for health<br />

as well as a longitudinal study <strong>of</strong> 465 outpatients evaluated at the Dreikurs PSC.<br />

His social justice concerns include public policy, advocacy for the seriously<br />

mentally ill and economic issues (and children’s issues) in developing countries<br />

(especially in El Salvador).<br />

Part-Time Program Faculty –<br />

Douglas Craig, Psy.D., Part-Time Program Faculty<br />

Dr. Craig received his M.A. and Psy.D. in Clinical <strong>Psychology</strong> from the Illinois<br />

<strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>Psychology</strong> (Chicago campus). He received a B.A. in<br />

Cultural Anthropology and <strong>Psychology</strong> from the University <strong>of</strong> Maryland<br />

Baltimore County. He currently serves as the Coordinator <strong>of</strong> Psychological<br />

Evaluations with the Center for Applied <strong>Psychology</strong> and Forensic Studies, where<br />

he conducts fitness for duty evaluations and pre-employment screenings for<br />

police <strong>of</strong>ficers and civilian personnel. He is also involved in the selection <strong>of</strong><br />

specialized units, such as the Specialized Weapons and Tactics unit (S.W.A.T.).<br />

Dr. Craig is developing, marketing, and conducting ongoing research projects<br />

focusing on proactive preventative approaches to the negative consequences<br />

and byproducts <strong>of</strong> policing, psychological autopsies, and the fitness for duty<br />

evaluation. His current areas <strong>of</strong> interest are how macro and micro cultural<br />

systems influence behavior, especially as it relates to law enforcement, as well<br />

as the neurocognitive basis <strong>of</strong> behavior, especially as it relates to stress.<br />

Stephen Kahn, Ph.D., Part-Time Program Faculty and Coordinator <strong>of</strong> the Clinical<br />

Hypnosis Program<br />

Dr. Kahn earned his B.A. in Philosophy at the University <strong>of</strong> Chicago. He received<br />

his Ph.D. in Human Developmental <strong>Psychology</strong> at University <strong>of</strong> Chicago and<br />

then became post-doctoral fellow at Cambridge Hospital and Harvard Medical<br />

<strong>School</strong>. While at Chicago, he directed a number <strong>of</strong> major research projects:<br />

“Hardiness and Stress,” “Creativity in Artists,” and “Self-Hypnosis.” He is coauthor<br />

<strong>of</strong> two books: "Self-Hypnosis: The Chicago Paradigm" and "Changes in<br />

the Therapist." Dr. Kahn is a licensed clinical psychologist and serves as Chair<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Clinical Practices Section at the Illinois Psychological Association. He is<br />

both on the faculty and a Fellow <strong>of</strong> the Society for Clinical and Experimental<br />

Hypnosis and currently serves as immediate Past-President <strong>of</strong> that organization.<br />

In addition to being a Fellow <strong>of</strong> the American Society <strong>of</strong> Clinical Hypnosis<br />

(ASCH), he is also a Certified Hypnotherapist and an Approved Consultant for<br />

that organization. His private practice includes individual as well as couples<br />

work with a specialty in hypnosis and behavioral medicine and hypnosis with<br />

couples.<br />
