Crossman received his B.S. (Summa cum Laude) in <strong>Psychology</strong> / Fine Arts from<br />

Fordham University, he earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical <strong>Psychology</strong> from<br />

Temple University, and he studied at Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic. Dr.<br />

Crossman has worked with and developed programs for a number <strong>of</strong> AIDS<br />

service organizations. He has taught courses, presented, written about, and<br />

developed programs and initiatives in diversity education, psychology training,<br />

family therapy and family diversity, and HIV disease prevention and coping. He<br />

is the Chair <strong>of</strong> the Council <strong>of</strong> Chairs <strong>of</strong> Training Councils <strong>of</strong> the American<br />

Psychological Association, he was the President <strong>of</strong> the National Council <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>School</strong>s and Programs <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>Psychology</strong>, and he received the<br />

Significant Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Contribution Award from the Hawaii Psychological<br />

Association. He serves on the Executive Committee as the Community Service<br />

Program Chair for the Board <strong>of</strong> Directors <strong>of</strong> the Center on Halsted.<br />

Vida Dyson, Ph.D., Core Faculty<br />

Dr. Dyson has been affiliated with <strong>Adler</strong> since 1992. Dr. Dyson earned her B.A.<br />

in <strong>Psychology</strong> at DePaul University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in<br />

<strong>Psychology</strong>/Personality Process at the University <strong>of</strong> Chicago. She is a Licensed<br />

Clinical Psychologist who has extensive experience working with children,<br />

adolescents, and adults with severe mental illness. Dr. Dyson teaches courses<br />

in ethnocultural diversity, gender issues, assessment, and clinical seminars. She<br />

also serves as a clinical supervisor at the Dreikurs Psychological Services Center.<br />

Dr. Dyson’s interests include multicultural assessment and treatment issues,<br />

assessment <strong>of</strong> cognitive and emotional problems in children and adolescents,<br />

and assessment and treatment <strong>of</strong> substance abuse and comorbid psychiatric<br />

disorders. Dr. Dyson’s teaching philosophy stresses the importance <strong>of</strong> students<br />

developing critical thinking skills, being aware <strong>of</strong> the importance <strong>of</strong> context and<br />

systematically using a scientific approach in the assessment and treatment <strong>of</strong><br />

clients. She believes that learning is a lifelong process and the reciprocal<br />

exchanges <strong>of</strong> ideas and information between faculty and students in the<br />

classroom and supervision.<br />

Frank Gruba-McCallister, Ph.D., Vice President <strong>of</strong> Academic Affairs<br />

and Core Faculty<br />

Dr. Gruba-McCallister received his B.S. in <strong>Psychology</strong> from Loyola University and<br />

his M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical <strong>Psychology</strong> from Purdue University. He is a<br />

Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Prior to his position at <strong>Adler</strong>, his clinical work was<br />

focused in the areas <strong>of</strong> health psychology and the emotional impact <strong>of</strong> disability.<br />

He was at the Illinois <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>Psychology</strong> for seventeen years,<br />

eventually serving as the Associate Dean. He teaches courses in history and<br />

systems, humanistic and existential psychotherapy, structural and systemic<br />

bases <strong>of</strong> health and dysfunction, social and community psychology, and<br />

psychology and advocacy. His interests include health psychology, the<br />
