enrolled in M.A. Thesis Continuation are expected to make steady and<br />

consistent progress on completion <strong>of</strong> their thesis. Failure to enroll in courses or<br />

M.A. thesis continuation may result in dismissal from the M.A.C. program.<br />

995 Master’s Clinical Qualifying Examination 0 Credits<br />

Prerequisite: Completion or near completion <strong>of</strong> all M.A. requirements and<br />

permission <strong>of</strong> the Registrar. The Qualifying Examination consists <strong>of</strong> the<br />

presentation <strong>of</strong> a clinical case including an audiotape, an analysis <strong>of</strong> key<br />

interchanges within the session presented, a written case conceptualization and<br />

treatment plan, a paper integrating research with the clinical case, and a paper<br />

examining social issues pertinent to the clinical case. Students will meet with<br />

two faculty examiners to review the material pertinent to the case. The oral<br />

presentation will take between one to one-and-a-half hours. Students’<br />

performance on both the written and oral portions is incorporated into the<br />

faculty evaluation. Students who fail to pass on the second attempt are subject<br />

to dismissal from the <strong>School</strong>.<br />

996 Doctoral Written Qualifying Examination 0 Credits<br />

Upon completion <strong>of</strong> the prerequisite courses, doctoral students are required to<br />

pass a Written Qualifying Examination. Students who fail to pass on the second<br />

attempt are subject to dismissal from the <strong>School</strong>.<br />

998 Doctoral Oral Defense 0 Credits<br />

Prerequisite: Permission <strong>of</strong> the Doctoral Dissertation Committee. Students are<br />

required to defend their Doctoral Dissertation during the Doctoral Oral Defense.<br />

Chicago Campus<br />

Josefina Alvarez, Ph.D., Core Faculty and Interim Program Director <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Doctor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Psychology</strong> in Clinical <strong>Psychology</strong> Program<br />

Dr. Alvarez received a B.A. in psychology from Loyola University Chicago and an<br />

M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Community <strong>Psychology</strong> from DePaul University. She<br />

completed a clinical-consultation internship at Yale University and has worked<br />

in community mental health and academic settings. Her interests include<br />

multicultural competence, Latina/o mental health, substance abuse, mutualhelp,<br />

and community consultation.<br />

Robert Baker, Psy.D., Core Faculty and Clinical Director <strong>of</strong> the Psychological<br />

Services Center’s Prison Aftercare Programs in Chicago<br />

Dr. Baker earned his B.A. in Economics at Michigan State University and his M.A.<br />

in Counseling <strong>Psychology</strong> and Psy.D. in Clinical <strong>Psychology</strong> at the <strong>Adler</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />
