multi-source integrative interpretation <strong>of</strong> commonly used tests <strong>of</strong> intelligence<br />

and cognition. Must be taken with required lab.<br />

628 Assessment II: Personality Assessment 3 Credits<br />

Prerequisite: 627. This course will provide students with an overview <strong>of</strong> the<br />

conceptual, theoretical and empirical issues in the measurement <strong>of</strong> personality<br />

and psychopathology through examination <strong>of</strong> the reliability and validity <strong>of</strong><br />

objective (actuarial) and projective methods <strong>of</strong> personality assessment.<br />

Students will learn to administer, score and interpret broadband measures (e.g.,<br />

MMPI-2, PAI, etc.), narrow-band measures (e.g., BDI-II, State/Trait Anxiety<br />

Inventory, etc), and the Rorschach Inkblot Test, as well as other projective<br />

measures (e.g., TAT, Sentence Completion, etc.) The course will also focus on<br />

the assessment <strong>of</strong> personality assets and strengths, criticisms <strong>of</strong> traditional<br />

approaches to personality assessment, and behavior assessment as an<br />

alternative to traditional approaches. Must be taken with required lab.<br />

632 Cognitive-Affective Bases <strong>of</strong> Behavior 3 Credits<br />

This course emphasizes the most recent theoretical developments in cognitiveaffective<br />

bases <strong>of</strong> behavior. Areas <strong>of</strong> emphasis will include attention, memory,<br />

knowledge, language, reasoning, problem solving, the cognitive bases <strong>of</strong> affect<br />

and consciousness, human learning and theories <strong>of</strong> motivation. The relevance<br />

<strong>of</strong> these topics to psychotherapy and change, as well as the possible impact <strong>of</strong><br />

social issues on course topics, will also be examined.<br />

634 History and Systems 3 Credits<br />

A survey <strong>of</strong> the historical development <strong>of</strong> major theories, research and practice<br />

in psychology is presented. Major systems <strong>of</strong> psychology are examined. In<br />

addition, the course is structured around a number <strong>of</strong> major philosophical<br />

issues and how major theories <strong>of</strong> psychology have understood and addressed<br />

these issues. The influence <strong>of</strong> sociocultural and historical factors on the<br />

development <strong>of</strong> theories is also examined, with particular focus to the role <strong>of</strong><br />

psychology in promoting social justice.<br />

636 Biological Bases <strong>of</strong> Behavior 3 Credits<br />

The course objectives are to make the student aware <strong>of</strong> pertinent gross and<br />

microscopic human neuroanatomy, to build a foundational understanding <strong>of</strong><br />

neurophysiology and the biology <strong>of</strong> the nerve, and to become familiar with a<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> clinical issues as they relate to neurophysiology. The emphasis<br />

throughout the class will be on developing a working familiarity with the<br />

functional neuroanatomy <strong>of</strong> the human brain. The biological consequences <strong>of</strong><br />

trauma will also be reviewed. The role <strong>of</strong> environmental and ecological factors<br />

on biological functioning will be discussed to promote socially responsible<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional practice.<br />
