450 Lifespan Development in Art Therapy 3 Credits<br />
This course presents theories <strong>of</strong> psychological development and graphic<br />
development that provide models for understanding human behavior across the<br />
lifespan. Art therapy perspectives and interventions are presented through<br />
readings, lectures, art making activities, and class discussion.<br />
451 Sociocultural and Multicultural Approaches 3 Credits<br />
in Art Therapy<br />
Through readings, lectures, and art-based activities students address a broad<br />
spectrum <strong>of</strong> cultural factors that influence art therapy practice. Issues and tools<br />
to develop cultural competence in art therapy practice are presented.<br />
452 Theories and Methods <strong>of</strong> Intervention 3 Credits<br />
in Art Therapy I: Families and Older Adults<br />
The focus <strong>of</strong> this course is family dynamics and treatment strategies in<br />
culturally diverse families and varied family constellations including older adults.<br />
Readings, presentations and art-based activities provide the class learning<br />
experiences.<br />
453 Theories and Methods <strong>of</strong> Intervention 3 Credits<br />
in Art Therapy II<br />
Through readings, class presentations and discussions, and art making<br />
activities, this course provides information and skills-building exercises on the<br />
trauma spectrum, loss and grief, and effects <strong>of</strong> trauma on diverse populations<br />
<strong>of</strong> children and adults.<br />
466 Studio Art for Art Therapists 3 Credits<br />
This course is a studio class to gain skills, develop visual art techniques and<br />
explore personal creativity.<br />
467-468 M.A. Practicum Seminar in Art Therapy I & II 1 Credit per term<br />
Required: Concurrent with 480-481. In a group consultation model, this course<br />
provides students in practicum with group discussion on art therapy practicum<br />
topics and issues. The focus is on increasing knowledge, skills and pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
growth within ethical, socially responsible and culturally diverse perspectives in<br />
art therapy.<br />
472 Basic Intervention and Assessment Skills 3 Credits<br />
Upholding the complementary relationship between assessment and<br />
intervention, this course is designed to provide students with the foundational<br />
knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level clinical practice. In the area <strong>of</strong><br />
intervention, the course familiarizes students with the essential elements <strong>of</strong> the<br />
psychotherapeutic relationship, common factors in counseling and<br />
psychotherapy, meta-theoretical views on human change processes and basic<br />
