041 Advanced Theories <strong>of</strong> Personality 0 Credits<br />

This non-credit graduate course provides a comparative study <strong>of</strong> the major<br />

theories <strong>of</strong> personality. The nature <strong>of</strong> personality is examined from various<br />

points <strong>of</strong> view including psychodynamic, humanistic, existential, behavioral,<br />

and cognitive. Students may use this course to fulfill the undergraduate<br />

requirement.<br />

042 Advanced Tests and Measures 0 Credits<br />

This non-credit graduate course provides a basic psychometric background for<br />

understanding assessment methods, basic statistics, and standardized tests.<br />

Topics include construction and standardization <strong>of</strong> tests, reliability and validity,<br />

and the application <strong>of</strong> tests and measurements. Students may use this course<br />

to fulfill the undergraduate requirement.<br />

043 Advanced Research Methods 0 Credits<br />

This non-credit graduate course provides an overview <strong>of</strong> scientific method,<br />

research methodology, and statistical design in psychology. Students may use<br />

this course to fulfill the undergraduate requirement.<br />

200-201 Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Development Seminar I & II 1 Credit per term<br />

This two-term course will provide students opportunities to meet in a small<br />

group with peers and one faculty member who will also serve as the students’<br />

advisor. The course covers advisement and mentoring around <strong>Adler</strong> degree<br />

requirements and mission, orientation to the field <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional psychology,<br />

issues <strong>of</strong> diversity as it relates to the field and students’ personal and<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional growth, and overview <strong>of</strong> the ethical codes and pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

standards <strong>of</strong> psychology. This course will also assist students in orienting and<br />

preparing students for the Community Service Practicum.<br />

202-203 Community Service Practicum I & II 1 Credit per term<br />

Co-requisites: Concurrent with one <strong>of</strong> the following courses: 350, 402, 505,<br />

641. During the second and third semesters <strong>of</strong> their first year <strong>of</strong> the master’s<br />

or doctoral program students are involved in supervised community service.<br />

Placements are assigned based upon an application process, overseen by the<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Training and Community Service. Students will spend 8-10 hours<br />

a week at this placement, accruing a minimum <strong>of</strong> 200 hours over the course <strong>of</strong><br />

6 months. Students will engage in activities such as youth tutoring, research<br />

and program development, community organizing, grant writing, and advocacy<br />

work. Students may not complete this requirement at their place <strong>of</strong><br />

employment. May not be transferred or waived.<br />

334 Psychodynamic Approaches to Intervention 3 Credits<br />

Prerequisites: 472, 520 (Applies to M.A. students only). This course is designed<br />

to provide critical examination <strong>of</strong> theory and techniques in psychodynamic<br />
