program curricula. This distinctive feature <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Adler</strong> programs enables<br />
students to receive an early exposure to the range <strong>of</strong> problems impacting the<br />
communities in which they and future clients live. Academic training includes<br />
preparation by means <strong>of</strong> grounding in theories and research on the impact on<br />
broader structural and systemic factors on human well-being and training in<br />
methods designed to impact social policies, address community issues and<br />
solve social problems. Thus, in addition to training students to work with<br />
individual clients in traditional service settings, <strong>Adler</strong> <strong>School</strong> provides students<br />
with knowledge and skills that will enable them to expand the practice <strong>of</strong><br />
psychology into new settings where they are much needed.<br />
The faculty <strong>of</strong> the <strong>School</strong> has adopted the following definition <strong>of</strong> socially<br />
responsible graduate:<br />
Socially responsible practitioners possess knowledge, skills, and attitudes that<br />
allow them to:<br />
• Understand the role <strong>of</strong> social context in conditioning physical and<br />
behavioral health,<br />
• Integrate this understanding into their pr<strong>of</strong>essional practice and civic<br />
engagement, and<br />
• Actively collaborate with others to reform social, political, and other<br />
societal structures and systems that adversely affect well-being.<br />
Organization and Governance<br />
The <strong>Adler</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>Psychology</strong> is a private, independent, notfor-pr<strong>of</strong>it<br />
institution <strong>of</strong> higher education. The <strong>School</strong> is incorporated in and<br />
operates under the provisions <strong>of</strong> the State <strong>of</strong> Illinois General Not-For-Pr<strong>of</strong>it<br />
Corporation Act and is declared a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization by the U.S.<br />
Department <strong>of</strong> the Treasury, and is extra-provincially registered under the laws<br />
<strong>of</strong> British Columbia as the <strong>Adler</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>Psychology</strong>, and is<br />
tax-exempt.<br />
