Meeting pattern: Four periods per week.<br />
These three one-trimester courses constitute a third-year level <strong>of</strong> Spanish study<br />
<strong>and</strong> are conducted entirely in the language. The series is designed for students<br />
who have completed through the intermediate level <strong>of</strong> high school Spanish.<br />
The first course, SP354, <strong>of</strong>fers some grammatical review, but greater emphasis is<br />
on the introduction <strong>and</strong> practice <strong>of</strong> more adanced grammatical concepts <strong>and</strong><br />
vocabulary in context. Through a variety <strong>of</strong> audio <strong>and</strong> video programs that<br />
correlate to the themes in the course, students develop listening<br />
comprehension. Class <strong>and</strong> language lab activities emphasize communication<br />
skills, allowing students to interact <strong>and</strong> apply what they are learning. Webbased<br />
activities provide additional language exercise. These courses also<br />
include readings <strong>of</strong> varying degrees <strong>of</strong> difficulty with an emphasis on cultural,<br />
social, historical, <strong>and</strong> literary topics. These then form the basis for development<br />
<strong>of</strong> composition skills in Spanish.<br />

Credit: One unit each World Language credit.<br />
Unless exempt, junior students using this sequence to meet the World Language<br />
graduation requirement must complete all three one-trimester courses. Junior<br />
students who have exempted the World Language requirement <strong>and</strong> seniors<br />
taking this for core-elective credit may choose to take only one or two<br />
trimesters, if they wish.<br />

Conducted entirely in Spanish, these three one-trimester courses constitute a<br />
fourth-year level <strong>of</strong> Spanish study <strong>and</strong> are designed to serve as a bridge<br />
between language study <strong>and</strong> literature. The courses are an exploration <strong>of</strong><br />
Hispanic literature, culture, <strong>and</strong> society through a variety <strong>of</strong> genres, including<br />
brief narratives, descriptions, short stories, poetry, plays, <strong>and</strong> the arts. Students<br />
develop an advanced vocabulary <strong>and</strong> improved reading comprehension.<br />
They develop their writing skills to include personal <strong>and</strong> descriptive narratives;<br />
