The course cultivates students’ interest <strong>and</strong> appreciation for oil painting. The<br />

subjects include still life, l<strong>and</strong>scape, <strong>and</strong> portrait oil painting, as well as art theory<br />

<strong>and</strong> appreciation. This class involves in-class demonstrations <strong>and</strong> supervised<br />

work sessions as well as out-<strong>of</strong>-class work. Students assemble a portfolio <strong>of</strong> their<br />

work completed in this course. Repeatable for credit.<br />

AR316 Digital Fine Art Photography<br />

One trimester<br />

Credit: One unit additional elective credit.<br />

Meeting pattern: Three periods per week.<br />

This course introduces students to the concepts <strong>and</strong> techniques necessary to<br />

create, edit, <strong>and</strong> store color photographic images using digital<br />

technology. Units on color theory, image-editing, printing options, <strong>and</strong> digital<br />

image storage are also covered. Students focus on personal exploration using<br />

technology as a creative medium for visual expression. Repeatable for credit.<br />

AR318 Mixed Media<br />

One trimester<br />

Credit: One unit additional elective credit.<br />

Meeting pattern: Three periods per week.<br />

In this course, students develop an inventive <strong>and</strong> experimental approach to a<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> media <strong>and</strong> examine how media, idea, <strong>and</strong> composition relate.<br />

Nontraditional uses <strong>of</strong> traditional materials are explored as well as the<br />

boundaries between painting <strong>and</strong> sculpture when nontraditional materials are<br />

incorporated in assemblage form. Repeatable for credit.<br />

<strong>COURSE</strong> OFFERINGS: Drama<br />

DR302, DR304, DR306 Theater Performance Workshop<br />

One trimester each<br />

Credit: One unit each additional elective credit.<br />

Meeting pattern: One 3-hour evening class meeting.<br />

This course focuses on the craft <strong>of</strong> stage performance beginning with rudiments<br />

<strong>of</strong> acting <strong>and</strong> building outwards to develop the skills <strong>and</strong> vocabulary <strong>of</strong> the<br />

theater artist. Students survey several acting methods working as individuals <strong>and</strong><br />

cooperative ensembles in the study <strong>of</strong> topics including voice, movement,<br />

improvisation, characterization, scene work, <strong>and</strong> text analysis for stage. As the<br />

course progresses, our study exp<strong>and</strong>s to skills in direction <strong>and</strong> technical<br />

design/operation. During each class, students participate in acting exercises<br />

that include structured peer feedback <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong>ten require physical activity. In<br />

addition, students enrolled are required to apply their classroom experience by<br />
