Students who have not taken the AP Chemistry examination, but who believe<br />

their mastery <strong>of</strong> the subject may qualify them for exemption may sit for the<br />

<strong>NCSSM</strong> chemistry exemption examination given during Orientation in August.<br />

The student may exempt the requirement by scoring above a cut<strong>of</strong>f established<br />

for exemption.<br />

Physics Exemption Guidelines<br />

AP B PHYSICS<br />

Students with a score <strong>of</strong> 4 or 5 on the AP B Physics examination AND<br />

demonstrated competence in fundamental laboratory skills may exempt the<br />

<strong>NCSSM</strong> physics graduation requirement by submitting a copy <strong>of</strong> their AP score<br />

report <strong>and</strong> sitting for the laboratory examination administered during Orientation<br />

in August. The student may exempt the requirement by scoring above a cut<strong>of</strong>f<br />

established for exemption.<br />

Students who provide evidence <strong>of</strong> laboratory competence in their laboratory<br />

notebook from a previous physics course may be excused from the laboratory<br />

part <strong>of</strong> the examination.<br />

AP C PHYSICS<br />

Students with a score <strong>of</strong> 4 or 5 on BOTH the AP C Physics Mechanics <strong>and</strong> the AP<br />

C Physics Electromagnetism examinations AND demonstrated competence in<br />

fundamental laboratory skills may exempt the <strong>NCSSM</strong> physics graduation<br />

requirement by submitting a copy <strong>of</strong> their AP score report <strong>and</strong> sitting for the<br />

laboratory examination administered during Orientation in August. The student<br />

may exempt the requirement by scoring above a cut<strong>of</strong>f established for<br />

exemption.<br />

Students with a score <strong>of</strong> 4 or 5 on just the AP C Physics Mechanics examination<br />

<strong>and</strong> demonstrated competence in fundamental laboratory skills may be<br />

approved for a modified exemption <strong>of</strong> the <strong>NCSSM</strong> physics graduation<br />

requirement. Such students meet the <strong>NCSSM</strong> graduation reuquirement in<br />

physics by completing PH406 AP C: Mechanics (II)/Electricity <strong>and</strong> Magnetism (I).<br />

Students who provide evidence <strong>of</strong> laboratory competence in their laboratory<br />

notebook from a previous physics course may be excused from the laboratory<br />

part <strong>of</strong> the examination.<br />

NO AP SCORE<br />

Students who have not taken these physics AP examinations, but who believe<br />

their mastery <strong>of</strong> the subject may qualify them for exemption may sit for the<br />

<strong>NCSSM</strong> physics exemption/placement examination <strong>and</strong> for the physics<br />

laboratory examination given during Orientation in August. Students may<br />

exempt the requirement by scoring above a cut<strong>of</strong>f established for exemption.<br />
