PA104 – PA126 Individual <strong>and</strong> Team Sports<br />

One trimester each<br />

Credit: One unit each physical activity or additional elective credit.<br />

Meeting pattern: One period per week including lab.<br />

Courses listed below provide instruction in the history <strong>of</strong> the game, basic skills<br />

<strong>and</strong> fundamental techniques, rules, etiquette, tactics, strategy, <strong>and</strong> scoring.<br />

Emphasis is placed on student safety <strong>and</strong> proper care <strong>of</strong> equipment. Through<br />

individual <strong>and</strong>/or group practice <strong>and</strong> opportunities for play, students develop<br />

skill in the sport. Instruction is geared to beginners, so students are not required<br />

to have previous knowledge <strong>of</strong> the sport or experience playing the sport.<br />

However, students are expected to make a full commitment to learning the<br />

game <strong>and</strong> developing physical skill in the sport. Students meet in class weekly<br />

for 90 minutes <strong>and</strong> are expected to participate in two additional weekly<br />

exercise sessions beyond the class meeting to comply with the Surgeon<br />

General’s recommendation <strong>of</strong> three moderate exercise sessions weekly.<br />

This course is designed for those who are serious about getting in shape. The<br />

curriculum is modeled after the P90X workout system <strong>and</strong> focus is on overall<br />

toning <strong>and</strong> strengthening <strong>of</strong> the entire body. Every two weeks students<br />

participate in a different workout including resistance training kickboxing,<br />

pilates, abdominal exercises, cardio strengthening, <strong>and</strong> yoga. Students meet in<br />

class weekly for 90 minutes <strong>and</strong> are expected to participate in two additional<br />

weekly exercise sessions beyond the class meeting to comply with the Surgeon<br />

General’s recommendation <strong>of</strong> three moderate exercise sessions weekly.<br />
