2010 ARMY ARTS AND CRAFTS CONTEST
Every year the Army offers an annual Arts and Crafts contest that gives
artists and crafters the opportunity to compete against contestants from
around the world. The contest is a juried competition of two and three
dimensional artwork for novice and accomplished artists. Artwork may be
entered in one of the following categories: Ceramics, drawings, wood
prints, fibers and textiles, water base painting, metals and jewelry and
two- and three-dimensional mixed media. Eligible patrons may submit
three works per category at the garrison level. Awards will be given to first,
second and third place and up to two honorable mentions for each
category and group of the contest. The entry form profile is at

Morale, Welfare and Recreation, with the exception of employees of the

Join us for the 2010 Spring Big Gobbler Contest hosted by the Outdoor
Adventure Center. Pre-registration is required prior to the start of the
season. All applicable contestants‟ entries will be judged by weight, spurs
and beard length for an overall score. Contest is open to the public.

ESPRIT DE CORPS
Come out and support your company during “Esprit de Corps” at the
Daugherty Bowling Center. Winning team will receive trophies and proudly
hang company flag inside Daugherty Bowling Center. League play will

$1.75. Team consists of 4 people (up to 12 per roster).

TRAILBLAZERS
Blaze a new trail to a healthier you! Meet at the Engineer Trail, every
Saturday beginning at 8:15am. Cost is $2 per class or you may use your
aerobic class pass to pay for each session. Come and walk, or switch it up
with a group-led interval workout. Moms with strollers or dog walkers are
welcome. Your progress will be tracked each week.

RECORDER KARATE WORKSHOP
SKIES Recorder Karate workshop is in session. Class meets every
Tuesdays from 1-2:30pm at the Audie Murphy‟s Community Center.
Workshop offers youths to experience an exciting ensemble of recording
playing and the chance to earn color sash for every step accomplished.
Youth‟s will also learn beginning keyboard and musical fundamental
instructions in order to enhance music reading skills to provide life-long

MAY EDGE! PROGRAM
The Child, Youth, & School Services EDGE program begins. The EDGE
Program is open and FREE to registered youths in grades 6-12.
For programs outside the Pippin Youth Center, a shuttle will be provided.

EDGE Programs:
Life EDGE – Youth will have the opportunity to learn to make simple and
healthy snacks and treats. Youth will meet every Monday from 3:30pm-
5pm at the Pershing Community Center.
Fit EDGE – Youth will learn the basics of mini golf. Youth will meet
Tuesday from 3:30-5pm at the Rec Plex. Shuttle will leave the Pippin
Youth Center at 3:20pm and return to Pippin Youth Center at 5:30pm.
Fit EDGE –Thursdays youth will meet at the Piney Valley Golf Course from
3:30-5pm to learn to golf. Shuttle will depart from the Pippin Youth Center
3:20pm and return to the Youth Center at 5:30pm.
Adventure EDGE –Fridays youth will meet at the Outdoor Adventure
Center from 3:30-5pm for trap shooting. Youth will learn the basics and
history of trap shooting. Shuttle will depart from Pippin Youth Center at
3:20pm. Parents must sign a waiver at the time of enrollment.

GRIPS & SPIKES
Before the season gets underway, the Piney Valley Golf Course is offering
a special on golf club re-gripping and golf shoe soft spike replacement.
During May, all you pay for is the purchase of grips and spikes (must be
purchased at the PVGC) and replacement is free (regular price $2).
Piney Valley Golf Course is open to the public.

REGISTRATION FOR JUNE ADVENTURE EDGE PROGRAM
PACKAGE (for Grades 1-5)
The EDGE Program is offering packages for school age youths in Grades
1-5. Cost for package is $60. Youths will meet on Tuesdays for canoe
basics and on Fridays for paintball basics from 2-4:30pm at the Outdoor
Adventure Center. Parents must sign a paintball waiver at the time of
registering. There are only 12 slots for this package so hurry and sign up

REGISTRATION FOR JUNE EDGE PROGRAM
CYS Services has partnered up with other MWR facilities to bring the
youth of the Fort Leonard Wood community the EDGE Program. This
monthly program offers after school opportunities for youth‟s to
Experience, Develop, Grow and Excel by participating in cutting-edge
activities. Participants must be registered with CYS Services. For all
programs out of Pippin Youth Center youth‟s will be transported by
shuttle to location. Space availability is limited. FREE & open to

Life EDGE! – Youths will learn the basic of maintaining a car. Experts
from the Auto Craft Shop will teach youth‟s how the proper way to
change the oil, repair/change tire, roadside emergency, and more.
Youths will meet every Thursday from 3-5pm. This is a hands on class,
so be ready to get dirty and wear proper clothing. Limited to 10 slots.
Life EDGE! - Want to learn to plan a special event? Youths will have the
opportunity to work with the staff of MWR Special Events to help
coordinate activities for the teen„s tent on 4 th of July. Youths will meet
every Wednesday from 3:30-4:30pm beginning May-July at the Pippin
Youth Center. Limited to 15 slots.
Fit EDGE! – The EDGE program is partnering up with Davidson Fitness
Center for a Junior Boot Camp which will consist of Cross Fit, Jujitsu, &
Zumba. Youths will meet every Wednesday from 3-4:30pm.

Adventure EDGE – Youth will have the opportunity to learn the basics of
canoeing on Tuesday and paintball on Friday from 2-4:30pm. All
Adventure activities will be held at the Outdoor Adventure Center.

The Outdoor Adventure Center will be hosting their Annual 3-D Archery

School Age Services will be hosting a weekly theme based summer camp
program for youths currently enrolled in 1st thru 5 th grade. Weekly
activities include horse back riding, theater, exploring Missouri, crafts and
field trips. Parents can pick and choose the weeks they want their child to
attend. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided. No additional charge
for field trips. Fees are charged weekly and are based on total family

The Army Community Service in cooperation with Operation US and
Forest Institute will be hosting a FREE relationship enhancement seminar

The SKIES Unlimited program will be offering tennis lessons for
beginners only. Beginner‟s will learn tennis basics from serving, hitting
and score keeping through drills and match play. Lessons will take place
at Sturgis Heights Tennis courts located on 4100 Piney Hills Drive. Cost
is $55 for a six week session. Tennis lessons is open to youths ages

COMMANDER’S GOLF SCRAMBLE

Scramble, with shot-gun beginning at 12pm. Cost is $140 per team,
includes food and drinks. Register 3 days prior to each event. AGFP will
receive $10 cash rebate after event using their tournament punch card.

ARMY TEN MILER TIME TRIAL
Ready, Set, GO!! Attention all Active Duty service members, come out
and qualify during the time trials for the Fort Leonard Wood Army Ten
Miler Team. The team will consist of Active Duty Service members from
Fort Leonard Wood. The fastest 8 runners will be part of the FLW Team
in the Active Duty Mixed (men and women) category. The team will fly
to Washington D.C. to compete in this year‟s Army Ten Miler in October
– entry fee, airline ticket, hotel and per diem will be paid by DFMWR.

HELLBENDER CRITERION
Davidson Fitness Center is hosting a 2010 Hellbender criterion starting
9am. Test your technical abilities in the upcoming bicycle road race.
Hellbender bicycle race is a closed course, a 1.4 mile clockwise loop;
generally flat to rolling with a few areas with slight elevation that is
located on the Missouri S&T Tech Park location on 197 Replacement
Avenue. Race is categorized by skill. Cost is $35. Race is open to the
public. Participants must pre-register at online at www.stlbiking.com.
Registration will take place at Lambs Doughnut located outside Fort
Leonard Wood‟s front gate. Race begins at 9am. For more information

5 on 5 PAINTBALL CHALLENGE
Does your team have the metal to win this tournament? Test your combat
skills as a team at the Outdoor Adventure Center‟s paintball tournament.
Cost is $20 per team. Registration begins at 10 am; tournament begins at
11:30 am. Each team will be entered in a drawing for door prizes and a
plaque to 1 st and 2 nd place winner. Our paintball challenge is a great way
to build Esprit De Corp and morale among team members.

SENIOR GOLF TOUR
The Piney Valley Golf Course will be hosting their annual Senior Tour,
with shot gun beginning at 9am. Cost is $20 per person for Advance
Green Fees patrons (AGFP), includes breakfast.

Register for the July EDGE Program today. Sign your youth for this after
school enrichment program where they learn about Life, Art, Fitness, and
Adventure. The EDGE Program is FREE and open to registered youths

Life EDGE - Want to learn how to plan special events? Youths will work
with the staff from MWR‟s Special Events to help plan activities in
upcoming events. Youths will meet every Monday from 3-4:30pm at the
Pippin Youth Center beginning July 12. Only 15 slots available.
Life EDGE – Want to plan a trip or your own fieldtrip? The EDGE
program has partnered up with the ITR (Information, Ticketing, &
Referral) Office so youths can learn how to plan for trips. Youths will meet
every Thursday from 3-4:30pm.
Art EDGE – The fun of ceramics. Youths will learn the basics of ceramics
at MWR’s Frame Shop and get to choose from pre-poured ceramics from
Bo Beep‟s Ceramics, to clean and paint. Class meets every Friday from
2:30-4:30pm. Only 10 slots available.
Fit EDGE – Bump. Set. Spike. The EDGE program has partnered with
the Davidson Fitness Center to teach youth the fundamentals of
volleyball and to participate in game situations. Youths will meet every
Wednesday from 2:30-4pm at the Davidson Fitness Center. Only 15 slots
available.
Adventure EDGE – Join in on the adventure of rock/wall climbing at the
Outdoor Adventure Center every Tuesday from 3-4:30pm. Only 12 slots
available.

Grades 1-5)
Register your young ones for EDGE‟s adventure program for the month of
July. Youths will meet every Tuesday at Outdoor Adventure Center from
3-4:30pm for an adventure of rock/wall climbing. Cost for program is $30.
Shuttle will pick youths up from S. Lee Kling School Age Services at
2:30pm and return at 5pm. School Age parents must pick up their children
no later than 5pm or the standard CYS Services late pick up fee will apply.
