Over 40 Patents Issued or Pending
New plastic metal hybrid material with antimicrobial activity in testing now
Have already formed a Joint Venture with Signal Medical Corporation, “Signal-LMD,
LLC” in order to develop a ceramic femoral head component with micro-grooves on its
surface in order to increase synovial fluid flow into the joint bearing surface. This
concept is in another Linares Medical Devices Patent.
Business Model is to place Intellectual Property into subsidiary LLCs which are jointly
owned by Linares Medical Devices and the Investor Company. Funds invested are
used to develop the Intellectual Property to the stage of working prototypes which
undergo testing required for FDA approval.
Exit Strategy is outright sale of the devices and IP, or licensing of IP, to large companies
in the orthopedic space
Scale of the Market
“Top Spine Surgeons Reap Royalties, Medicare Bounty”
- By John Carreyrou and Tom McGinty Source: Wall Street
Journal
Medtronic is the biggest maker of spinal implants.
• Last year, its spine business generated world-wide sales of
$3.5 billion…
• …accounting for half of the roughly $7 billion spinal-implant
market.
About 250,000 Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusions are
performed in the U.S. each year.
Reimbursement to the manufacturers of the equipment for
these operations is at least $5,000 per operation.
• 250,000 operations x $5,000 per operation
= $1,250,000,000 market CONSERVATIVELY
• 10% of this market = $125,000,000 annually
NEXT STEPS
Medical Main Street Conference
• Form “NewCo, LLC” which will be jointly owned by Investor and Linares Medical
Devices
• Fund “NewCo, LLC” with $2,000,000 to be used for:
– Production of several working prototypes of several design variations
– Dynamic load and wear testing on standardized “potted spine” model
– Animal biocompatibility testing and FDA approval
– Expected time for this stage is 15 months
• Exit Strategies:
– Sale of “NewCo, LLC” to large suitor such as Medtronic, or…
– partnership with similar large spine company to take device through
completion of FDA approval process, or…
– Additional round of financing to take it to completion ourselves if this is the
most profitable outcome
Improvement over x-stop & similar devices:
• Softer plastic with modulus of elasticity similar to bone would be
placed next to bone of adjacent spinous processes.
• Harder plastic would form the interior portions of the device.
• This will decrease the deterioration of the spinous processes
associated with the x-stop device and other similar devices.
