Description of the territory<br />

The valley of Rio Torsero, behind the hamlet of Ceriale, is extremely important from a paleontological<br />

point of view, because it houses a rich settlement of deposit of fossils dated back to the Pliocene period,<br />

especially bivalves and gastropods, known among the experts and enthusiasts worldwide, for the exceptional<br />

preservation state and abundance. In the recently renovated “Silvio Lai” museum, it is possible to admire the<br />

collection coming from the Reserve and to literally discover, the meaning of palaeontology and the precious<br />

contribution for the understanding of the geology of a territory. Around the Museum, there is the “fossil<br />

garden”: a trip back in time to discover the vegetable evolution.<br />

How to get there<br />

By car: highway A10 Genoa- Ventimiglia (Albenga toll booth), then follow for Ceriale;<br />

By train: Genoa- Ventimiglia line (Ceriale station)<br />

Historical villages and other attractions<br />

In addition to the historic centre of Ceriale, the hamlet of Peagna, settlement of ancient and noble families,<br />

houses an important library specialized in books concerning Ligurian topics, and at the end of August, every<br />

year, it hosts the “Libri di Liguria” exhibition.<br />
