NIGHT FLY FISHING EXPERIENCE - Flyfishingtails

We shone a torch on the water
and saw he was into a good
springer, tail walking on the
water like a tarpon. Well landed,
with the assistance of everyone
pulling in their lines, he was
pretty chuffed with this fish. It
was caught on a sparsely tied
deceiver pattern.
Soon after that Ryan tied on
one of his chartreuse type brush
flies and was into a fish that felt
heavy, yet it never jumped, just
pulled hard. Finally after getting
it closer I noticed it was a beautiful
honeycomb ray hooked in
the mouth, about 1.5m in length,
with tail and about 70cm in
diameter.
An unusual catch and was
released straight away. The tide
was slowly staring to peak and
Andre gets his line wrapped
around his feet and pulls on
the line not realizing the his fly
was amongst that, only to get
it jammed into his leg. Another
reason to de-barb, have a stripping
basket and wear safety
goggles!
With that, we headed back to
camp for a few scoops, doctoring
and reminisce of the weekends
fishing we had, planning
the next trip back to this gem
of a South African North Coast
destination in the hopes that the
big boys will be present!
