Arrive in Nairobi at any time and set out to explore the city or just relax at your hotel before starting 

your adventure the next day. 

Eldoret / Kampala / Kalinzu Forest Reserve 

Drive through varied landscapes as you cross over the Mau Mau Escarpment to Eldoret where you 

will enjoy your first night of camping. Continue into Uganda and across the northern shores of Lake 

Victoria to camp near the commercial centre of Kampala. On Day 4, visit Kalinzu Forest Reserve and 

set off on an included chimpanzee tracking excursion. (3B, 3L, 3D) 

Gorilla tracking / Kabale 

Travel through gorgeous countryside to the lush mountainous region around Lake Bunyoni and take a 

one-day guided trek deep into the forested volcanoes for a wild encounter with a family of mountain 

gorillas. Spend the rest of your time swimming, cycling, fishing or canoeing on the lake. (3B, 3L, 3D) 

Lake Nabugabo / Jinja 

After the day’s drive, relax along the shores of Lake Nabugabo. Separated by a sand bar from Lake 

Victoria, this small freshwater lake is special due to its beaches, coastline and rare species. Day 9 

will take you to the ‘Source of the Nile’, Jinja, where you can go mountain biking in the Mabira Forest,

Eldoret / Lake Nakuru / Lake Naivasha 

Cross into Kenya for a night in Eldoret before continuing to enjoy a game drive in Lake Nakuru

Nairobi / Arusha

Serengeti National Park / Ngorongoro Crater

while taking in the vastness of the Serengeti plains. Take in the stunning views from Ngorongoro

Arrive into Nairobi at any time and relax in your hotel or wander out to explore the city. 

Lake Nakuru National Park 

Head north out of the city passing through the Great Rift Valley and on to Lake Nakuru National 

Park. You’ll be flabbergasted by the hundreds of thousands of flamingos lining the shore. At times, 

especially when these graceful creatures take flight en masse, it can be difficult to even spot the 

lake, so vibrant is the sea of pink feathers. Lovely though the birds are, Lake Nakuru has much more 

in store as you’ll discover on this afternoon’s game drive. Keep your eyes peeled for white and black 

rhino, buffalo, impala, hyena, and even leopard. (B, L, D) 

Lake Naivasha / Maasai Mara Game Reserve 

Stop at the beautiful Lake Naivasha for an included boat ride to search for hippos and flamingos 

before continuing on to one of Africa’s greatest wildlife reserves, Maasai Mara. With its vast open 

plains and distinctive flat-topped acacia trees, no visit to Kenya would be complete without a visit 

here. Spend time game viewing in small safari vehicles with excellent chances of seeing the ‘Big 5’ - 

lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. Marvel at gazelles, impala and ostrich from wonderful vista 

points along the Esoit Oloololo Escarpment. On top of all of this fabulous wildlife viewing, you’ll also

Kisii / Musoma 

Ascend from the plains to the green hills of Kenya’s premier tea-growing and soapstone region of 

Kisii. Approaching Kisii, you will experience breathtaking views of the vast rolling hills covered by the 

tea plantations that are one of the economic backbones of the local economy. On Day 6, you’ll cross 

into Tanzania and arrive to the shores of Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake and regarded as the

Venture to the world-famous Serengeti National Park. The park is to Tanzania what the Maasai

Serengeti National Park / Ngorongoro Conservation Area / Arusha 

If you didn’t get your fill of the wildlife yesterday, then top up your cravings with even more Serengeti 

game driving in the morning of Day 8. Journey on to the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest 

intact volcanic caldera and arguably its most spectacular natural arena. The crater serves as an 

extraordinary natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest populations of large mammals who 

remain on the crater floor due to the permanent water supply. On Day 9, descend to the bottom

Eldoret / Kampala 

Travel over varied landscapes as you cross the Mau Mau Escarpment and arrive into Eldoret. Continue 

to Uganda and across the northern shores of Lake Victoria to camp in Kampala, Uganda’s vibrant 

commercial centre and largest city in the country. (2B, 2L, 2D) 

Kalinzu Forest Reserve 

Apart from an alluring variety of forest birds, Kalinzu Forest Reserve boasts six primate species 

including chimpanzees, olive baboons, and black and white colobus, as well as the rare pygmy 

antelope. Set off on an included chimpanzee tracking excursion and admire the stunning views over 

the Rwenzori Mountains, Lake Edward, the Kazinga Channel and the Congo. (B, L, D) 

Gorilla tracking / Kabale 

Journey south through gorgeous countryside to Lake Bunyoni where you’ll be based for a couple 

of days. Undoubtedly, the highlight of your trip will be setting off into the lush undergrowth of 

mountainous Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to track the endangered mountain gorilla. The steep 

slopes of Bwindi National Park are home to approximately half of the world’s population of these 

fascinating creatures; the world’s most endangered ape. A close encounter with these amazing 

animals is simply breathtaking. Spend your free time swimming, fishing, canoeing, mountain biking or 

simply enjoying the beautiful nature, peace and quiet around the lake. (3B, 3L, 3D) 

Lake Nabugabo / Jinja 

Camp along the shores of Lake Nabugabo, separated by a sand bar from Lake Victoria. This small 

freshwater lake is known as birder’s paradise, and is special for its beaches and coastlines. On Day 

9, continue to the ‘Source of the Nile’, Jinja, known for its outdoor activities. Opt to raft down the 

White Nile River, bike up and down the hills or choose to volunteer with a local project. (3B, 3L, 3D) 

Eldoret 

After breakfast this morning, say goodbye to Jinja and cross back over the border into Kenya for 

a night in the bustling town of Eldoret, which is Kenya’s fifth-largest urban centre and enjoys a 

pleasant climate thanks to its elevation at over 2,000m. (B, L, D) 

Lake Nakuru National Park / Lake Naivasha 

Continue your adventure to Lake Nakuru National Park, one of the best places in Kenya to see 

leopards, and white rhinos are often spotted at the lake’s southern end. The park’s main attraction 

though are the flamingos, drawn here in their millions and painting the lake pink. Day 13 will take you 

to Lake Naivasha, the highest of the Rift Valley Lakes. Lake Naivasha boasts around 400 bird species 

that are known to frequent the area, and there’s also a sizeable hippo population. Go on a walking 

safari, visit Green Crater Lake or view birds and wildlife around the camp. (2B, 2L, 2D) 

Nairobi 

Continue through the Rift Valley back towards Nairobi where your trip comes to an end upon arrival

stopping at Lake Nakuru National Park the next day. Witness the impressive spectacle of hundreds of 

thousands of graceful flamingos as they turn the lake a shocking shade of pink! This afternoon, head 

off on a game drive in this renowned park, before settling in the camp. (B, L, D) 

Lake Naivasha / Loita Hills 

Head towards the beautiful Lake Naivasha for an included flamingo- and hippo-spotting boat ride 

before continuing onto Loita Hills, one of Kenya’s last remaining true wilderness areas. You will be 

welcomed into a community by your local Maasai guide and his villagers. Learn about the ways of 

these semi-nomadic people on a guided tour of their land and village. Discover everything from their

Arrive in Nairobi at any time and settle in your hotel for a night. After a welcome meeting with your 

tour leader, you’ll depart from Kenya’s capital city early morning on Day 2 to cross through the semiarid 

lands of the Maasai people into Tanzania. Arrive in the bustling agricultural centre of Arusha, 

which is also known as the country’s safari capital due to its proximity to the Serengeti National 

Park and other reserves and mountain regions. Spend some time exploring the town and its bustling 

markets, before settling down to a relaxing night at the campsite. (B, L, D) 


Switch to smaller 4x4 safari vehicles to head into the Serengeti National Park for a spectacular 

wildlife experience. On arrival, you’ll enjoy a game drive in these great seven-seater vehicles which 

have open-top roofs and sliding windows to maximise your viewing opportunities. The Serengeti 

is famed all over the world for its fabulous animals, including big cats and the ‘Big 5’, so get your 

camera out and start snapping! The area where you’ll stay is in the central Serengeti, and game 

drives will focus on this part of the huge wilderness area. (B. L, D) 

Ngorongoro Crater / Marangu 

Enjoy a morning game drive in the Serengeti to see the wildlife at its most active, before arriving 

at the Ngorongoro Crater. This intact volcanic caldera is not only an important geological site, but 

the permanent water supply on the crater floor creates an extraordinary natural sanctuary for huge 

populations of large mammals - it is quite simply one of the best places in Africa for game viewing. 

Marvel at the quintessentially African view from the crater rim and venture down to the grassland of 

the crater floor in your final safari experience amongst the abundant grazing animals such as zebra, 

buffalo and warthogs. The swamp and forested areas of Ngorongoro also provide resources for 

hippos, giant-tusked elephant, waterbucks, baboons and vervet monkeys. The animals aren’t fenced 

in by the crater walls, but few see any reason to roam when the conditions are this favourable. Day 

5 will take you to Marangu, one of the popular starting points for those climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, to 

enjoy spectacular views of this majestic mountain. (2B, 2L, 2D) 

Dar Es Salaam 

Today you’ll head towards the city of Dar Es Salaam. This former fishing village has grown into a 

significant trading and commercial centre over the years, thanks to its bustling port. Today, it’s easily 

Tanzania’s biggest city with a population of 2.5 million. Dar Es Salaam translates as ‘abode of peace’ 

and its name is closely related to the more familiar Jerusalem, in Israel. It’s also the jumping-off point 

for ferries across to Zanzibar. (B, L, D) 

Zanzibar / Stone Town / Nungwi 

Take the ferry over to Zanzibar where you have the time to explore the maze of streets in the historic 

settlement of Stone Town, and to embark upon a guided tour of a spice plantation. Smell the fragrant 

spices produced here and pick up some recipe tips as to their culinary uses. Head up to Nungwi 

in the northeast of the island, and get horizontal on the area’s beautiful white sandy beaches. 

Snorkelling or scuba diving might be on the agenda, as might optional visits to discover museums, 

palaces and beautiful Arab residences. If all you want to do, however, is relax with a good book by 

the shores of the Indian Ocean, well, we won’t tell if you don’t! It’s a blissful way to end your tour. 

Your last night on Zanzibar is spent back in Stone Town. (4B) 

Zanzibar 

Your trip comes to an end after breakfast in Stone Town this morning. Either extend your stay in 

beautiful Zanzibar, or make your own way by ferry back to Dar Es Salaam to continue your amazing

Nairobi / Maasai Mara 

Kenya is East Africa’s most popular destination and has a long tradition of tourism and of welcoming 

visitors. Often the first word you hear is the Swahili greeting ‘Jambo’ (hello), often followed by 

‘Hakuna matata’ (no problem!). It’s an early departure on Day 1 to make your way across the Great 

Rift Valley to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Arrive at camp on the edge of the reserve. (L, D) 

Maasai Mara National Reserve / Nairobi 

The sweeping plains, low slung acacia trees and plentiful wildlife make the Mara outstanding for 

game viewing at all times of the year. Search for the ‘Big 5’ (elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo and leopard) 

and a vast array of other wildlife on morning and afternoon game drives. Enjoy a last game drive on 

the morning of Day 3 before leaving the Maasai Mara, travelling through the Great Rift Valley back to

Arusha 

Cross into Tanzania and stop in the safari capital Arusha, nestling in the shadow of Mount Meru and 

nearby to Mount Kilimanjaro. Explore Arusha’s colourful markets and bargain hard for curios. If you

Serengeti National Park / Ngorongoro Crater 

Switch to 4WD vehicles and head to the world-famous Serengeti National Park. The park is over 

15,000 sq km of mainly open plains, giving you the best opportunity to see all that wildlife. Spend an 

exhilarating night camped out on an unfenced site, just remember to keep those toes inside the tent! 

The sounds at night are as wild as the sights during the day. Travel to the Ngorongoro Crater where 

you can stop to marvel at the views from its rim before setting up camp. This is Africa’s largest intact

Ngorongoro Crater / Arusha 

Descend the inner walls of Ngorongoro Crater, a World Heritage site containing one of the most 

concentrated populations of wildlife anywhere in the world. You’ll see scores of animals so keep your

Moshi Area / Pangani / Dar Es Salaam 

Spend the morning on a cultural village walk with the local Maasai people. Continue your journey 

heading south towards the balmy Indian Ocean via Pangani. Arriving in Dar Es Salaam, you’ll camp at

Zanzibar 

Take the ferry to exotic island of Zanzibar and spend three nights unwinding after your adventure. 

With its palm-fringed beaches, romantic winding cobbled alleys and lush tropical forests, this is

Samburu Game Reserve 

Head north from Nairobi to pass Mt. Kenya, Africa’s second-highest 

mountain, en route to Samburu Game Reserve, a wildlife haven for 

species rarely found elsewhere. Look for oryx, ostrich, zebra and 

long-necked gerenuk on an afternoon game drive. Day 3 is a full day 

of wildlife viewing searching for the ‘Big 5’ and travelling (as always 

on this trip) in small, 7-seater safari vehicles that minimise your drive 

times and increase your chances of snapping that perfect shot. You’ll 

also get to meet some of the Samburu tribesfolk with a village visit 

and learn of their semi-nomadic lifestyles. (2B, 2L, 2D) 


Descend into the Great Rift Valley and enjoy stunning views of 

the escarpment as you travel. Lake Nakuru is a shallow soda lake,

Moshi 

Arrive in Moshi at any time and head out to explore. 

Kilimanjaro National Park 

After breakfast and a short briefing from the guide, you’ll be transferred to the gates of Kilimanjaro 

National Park and will begin the four-hour walk to the Mandara Escarpment to overnight (2,743m). 

The next day, continue through temperate forest, heather and moorland zones for roughly six hours 

to Horombo Hut (3,720m). On Day 4, ascend onto the Kilimanjaro Saddle through a desert-like alpine 

zone - Kibo peak comes into view. Spend the night at Kibo Hut (4,703m). (3B, 3L, 3D) 

Mt. Kilimanjaro Summit / Moshi 

The best time to climb to the summit is during the night. The 5km ascent typically takes six hours, 

so you need to get going around midnight to stand a chance of reaching the summit in time to catch 

the sunrise. From Gillman’s Point it is a further two-hour round trip along the crater’s edge to Uhuru 

Peak, Africa’s highest point. Descend to Moshi for your last night on the mountain, and for some 

well-deserved relaxation. (2B, 2L ,2D) 

Arusha / Lake Manyara National Park 

It’s a short jaunt across to Arusha, a picturesque town known as Tanzania’s safari capital, where you 

will pick up any last-minute supplies for the safari. First stop on Day 8 is the Mto wa Mbu village 

where you’ll take a walk and learn about the local culture (don’t forget to try the banana beer). Then 

it’s on to Lake Manyara National Park and its famous tree-climbing lions. (2B, L, D) 


Head to the world-famous Serengeti National Park via a local Masai village. Enjoy game drives in this 

vast environment of open savannah, which is home to a spectacular collection of wildlife including 

the ‘Big 5’. It really is one of Africa’s very best game viewing experiences. (2B, 2L, 2D) 


Enjoy one last Serengeti game drive before journeying to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Views 

from the crater rim are stunning and there is an ever-present abundance of wildlife. Venture to the 

crater floor, which has a permanent water supply so vital to life in this region, and check out herds 

of grazing animals such as zebra, gazelle and buffalo. Leave the wildlife behind you and travel back to 

Arusha. (2B, 2L, D) 

Zanzibar / Stone Town 

Board your plane to Zanzibar and transfer to the island’s historic capital of Stone Town; a captivating 

labyrinth of narrow streets and winding alleyways. Explore this exotic city with plenty of free time 

and optional activities such as visits to palaces, museums and old Arab residences. (2B) 

Zanzibar 

Journey to the northwest coast of the island for a guided tour of a spice plantation. You can then 

spend your remaining time enjoying the beautiful white sandy beaches of Nungwi, the beach capital 

of Zanzibar and your home for the next two nights. On Day 17, transfer back to Stone Town, where

Arrive in Arusha at any time. Known as Tanzania’s ‘safari capital’, it’s 

a great place from which to start your adventure. On Day 2, head to 

Mto wa Mbo village for a tour to learn about local life. After lunch 

in the village spend an afternoon touring the stunning Lake Manyara 

National Park, home to prolific birdlife and the famous tree-climbing

Journey to the Serengeti with a stop in a local Maasai village, where 

you can learn about their culture and lifestyle. Spend your time 

searching for the ‘Big 5’ amongst the acacia-spotted savannah on 

game drives in the fantastic grounds of the Serengeti National Park.

Go on a final morning game drive in the Serengeti before continuing 

on to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, famed for its abundant

After breakfast you’ll venture down to the crater floor for your final 

safari experience. Take in the views of the high concentration of 

wildlife bound by the crater walls though unfenced and free to roam

against a stunning African backdrop. Travel back to Arusha for the 

last night on your African adventure, sit under the stars and soak up

Arrive into Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport, and you’ll be taken to your

From the shimmering shores of the Indian Ocean to the highest heights of Mt Kilimanjaro, 

this tour will take you on an exhilarating journey of the very best that the diverse country 

of Tanzania has to offer. Begin your adventure on the paradise island of Zanzibar, before 

journeying to the wild Serengeti National Park and the awesome Ngorongoro Crater which is 

teeming with wildlife. The final part of the journey is a climb up the magnificent Kilimanjaro 

- Africa’s highest peak, and one of the continent’s most magnificent sights. These 17 days 

will excite your senses and thrill you every step of the way!

ITINERARY 

Dar Es Salaam / Zanzibar 

Welcome to Tanzania! Your first day will see you taking the ferry from the bustling historic port of 

Dar Es Salaam to the laid back, island paradise of Zanzibar. Arrive in Stone Town and spend your day 

at leisure exploring the cobbled alleyways and colourful markets. (B) 

Zanzibar / Dar Es Salaam 

Venture to the north of the island and to some of the finest beaches in the Indian Ocean. Spend the 

next few days relaxing on the white sand shores or swimming in the warm turquoise waters. If you 

fancy doing some exploring opt to excite your senses on an exotic spice tour or try your hand at 

scuba diving. On Day 5, travel back to the mainland by ferry before the wild part of your tour begins.

Pangani / Moshi area / Arusha 

Travel inland to the grassy plains of northern Tanzania. You will pass Africa’s highest peak, Mt. 

Kilimanjaro. Standing at a staggering 5,895m, this truly is a sight to behold. Arrive in Arusha where 

you will explore the town and take a guided walk to the local Masai village to learn about their 

traditional culture and way of life. Also meet the inhabitants of the neighbouring Meserani Snake 

Park. (2B, 2L, 2D) 


Today you will head out in smaller 4WD vehicles for a three-day excursion to the Serengeti National 

Park and Ngorongoro Crater. Spend your days driving through the Serengeti and keeping your eyes 

peeled for the ‘Big 5’. Camp out under the stars in the middle of the Serengeti plains and feel truly 

immersed in the African wilderness. Travel through the Rift Valley before arriving at Ngorongoro 

Crater, a World Heritage site containing the most concentrated population of wildlife found anywhere 

in Africa. Descend the crater walls and enjoy game viewing in this spectacular setting. Return to 

Arusha and enjoy a relaxing evening in preparation for your Kilimanjaro trek. (3B, 3L, 3D) 

Moshi / Kilimanjaro Climb, Marangu Route 

After a good night’s sleep begin your journey to Moshi, the town where you will start and finish your 

Kilimanjaro adventure. You will follow the Marangu Route, Kilimanjaro’s most direct and popular 

trekking route. The path is well defined and although demanding on the ascent it also offers some 

comforts to make the track a little easier. Your accommodation is in simple mountain huts with 

communal dormitories. Meals are prepared for you by your guides and a porter will carry most of 

your belongings. The trail runs above the cloud line, through rainforest onto high moorland before 

reaching the alpine zone. The final steep ascent takes place on the morning of Day 15, the aim being 

to reach the summit in time for a glorious sunrise. The view over the vast African plains is incredible! 

Give yourself a pat on the back and marvel at your surroundings. Your descent will take you back to 

Moshi for a well-earned rest. (6B, 5L, 4D) 

Nairobi 

Today you make your final transfer from Moshi to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. Say farewell to your 

travel buddies and continue on your onward journey. (B)

Based in a village on Zanzibar’s east coast, you’ll assist at one of the local schools (primary 

or secondary) or pre-schools, which are typically understaffed, underfunded and struggle 

with large class sizes and limited resources. You’ll assist students individually and provide 

the attention needed to help them gain confidence in their studies. English language training 

provides a great benefit to students and their parents - and although it’s not necessary, 

volunteers with TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualifications are an asset!

Most village schools have too many pupils to accommodate at one time and with shortages 

of staff and facilities, this means two school sessions per day are often run. You will find 

that most of the schools have meagre and ill-equipped facilities, but a wealth of children 

with a desire to learn. As a volunteer, you will help to provide children with a better 

education, especially by aiding them in the development of their English language skills. 

Life as a volunteer 

Jambiani is a fishing village stretching for a few kilometres along a beautiful white sand beach. Your 

accommodation will be beachfront bungalows and you will spend your mornings and afternoons at 

local schools in the beachside community. 

At the pre-schools, you’ll help the children develop their creative skills through crafts such as 

painting, drawing and colouring. Days at the primary and secondary schools will be spent assisting 

local teachers, providing support for students who need extra help. 

Organise sports programmes and run sporting tournaments to challenge and engage the kids. 


Assist in improving educational facilities in the community.
