<strong>Michelin</strong> is a global company whose product is<br />

<strong>Michelin</strong> is proud to be a member of the Maritime<br />

community, operating three plants in Nova Scotia<br />

in Pictou County, Bridgewater and Waterville.<br />

The company has been manufacturing tires in<br />

Nova Scotia for more than 35 years and<br />

employs approximately 3,500 people.<br />

Dedicated to the improvement of sustainable<br />

mobility, <strong>Michelin</strong> designs, manufactures and sells<br />

tires for every type of vehicle, including airplanes,<br />

automobiles, bicycles, earthmovers, farm<br />

equipment, heavy-duty trucks, motorcycles and<br />

the space shuttle. The company also publishes<br />

travel guides, hotel and restaurant<br />

guides, maps and road atlases.<br />

NSCC is a vibrant post-secondary institution<br />

committed to building Nova Scotia’s economy<br />

and quality of life through education and<br />

innovation. NSCC offers over 100 programs in<br />

five academic schools that reflect the labour<br />

market needs and opportunities of the provincial<br />

economy, and serves the province through a<br />

network of 13 campuses. According to NSCC’s<br />

most recent survey of graduates (2006),<br />

91 percent of NSCC graduates are employed;<br />

Female Technical Initiative<br />

Bursary Program<br />

The purpose of the Female Technical Initiative<br />

bursary program is to encourage talented young<br />

women to enter a trades and technology program<br />

at NSCC in preparation for a career with <strong>Michelin</strong>.<br />

The following are the eligible NSCC<br />

courses for the bursary program:<br />

• Electrical - Construction and<br />

Industrial Diploma<br />

• Electrical Engineering Technology<br />

• Electronic Engineering Technology<br />

• Electronic Engineering Technician<br />

• Mechanical Engineering Technology<br />

• Machining<br />

• Electro Mechanical Technician<br />

• Industrial Mechanical<br />

To be eligible for the bursary award program<br />

you must be a current grade 12 female graduating<br />

from high school in Yarmouth, Digby, Kings,<br />

Annapolis, Hants or Halifax County, and you<br />

must have taken no more than two years* to<br />

complete both grades 11 and 12.<br />

*Unless excused from this requirement.<br />

<strong>Michelin</strong> Waterville facility.<br />

• Essay (200-400 words) describing why the<br />

student is interested in a career at <strong>Michelin</strong><br />

in Waterville in a technical role<br />

Selection is based on academic ability, character,<br />

demonstration of teamwork and leadership skills<br />

and essay content. The bursary award recipients<br />

will be selected by a panel that includes NSCC<br />

and <strong>Michelin</strong> personnel.
