Installation and use of scale
Your ADE scale is a quality product. In order to achieve best possible results please read and follow
strictly the instructions of this Operating Manual:
Check carton contents
- Weighing platform
- 3 stainless steel columns
- Upper part of handrail with display mounted and cable plus male plug
- Assembling material (4 adjustable feet)
- Mains adapter
- Operating Manual
Assembling:
Unpack the carton contents and follow the assembling advices as follows:
- Turn platform and place on the ground up side down.
- Assemble the four adjustable feet into each hole in the corners of the rear platform.
- Turn platform round.
- Screw two of the stainless steel columns onto each screw in both edges of the platform.
- Insert the cable with the male plug attached to the upper part of the handrail into the third
stainless steel column and gently pull it out. Connect the male plug to the female connector
which you find inserted in the hole close to the back side edge of the platform.
- Now connect the third column by screwing it over the connector and make sure it is securely
tightened
- Insert the three bars of the upper handrail with indicator into the three columns and press
them down until there is no gap to be seen.
- Assembling is completed.
Attention: Due to packing and transport you may find the upholstery of the railing slightly distorted.
This will however disappear shortly after set up.
Before weighing
Power supply of the scale: By mains adapter (12V 300 mA) and rechargeable batteries
- The display is already equipped with rechargeable batteries.
- To charge the power-pack for the first time please use the mains adapter.
- Complete first charging needs 24 hrs.
- Place the scale in its working area.
- Make sure to place the scale on an level surface.
- The scale is now ready for use.
Caution:
Please operate the scale only with the original ADE mains adapter that has been delivered.
- Always fit the adapter to the scale BEFORE connecting to an electrical outlet.
- Disconnect from the electrical outlet BEFORE disconnecting the adapter from the scale.
- The mains adapter is not waterproof. Therefore make sure NOT to use the scale where water
can penetrate.
- In case the mains adapter became wet or show visible damages the scale can no longer be
operated by using this mains adapter. In this case please contact your local dealer or service
partner.
Weighing
To take the weight
- Press key ON to start the scale. `8888´will appear on the display which is an automatic
function test and zero setting. When `0.0´appears you are in the kg weighing mode. In addition
display will show the symbol `o´ to confirm stability of the zero setting.
- The scale may now be used.
- Step on the platform and stand still.
- After display is showing your weight and symbol `o´ appeared the most accurate result has
been reached.
- To turn off the scale press key OFF for minimum 3 seconds. This is essential if scale is used
on batteries. Using the scale on mains it may remain permanently switched on or can be shut
off manually by pressing key.
Change unit function
You may select the weight unit between kg and lb. Coming from the factory the scale is switched to kg
mode. To change into lb mode press UNIT/HEIGHT key.
Caution
- Please check weighing mode after switching to get proper result.
Set zero
You may set any displayed weighing result back to zero `0.0´by pressing the ZERO key. The
advantage is to weigh shoes or dress separately.
- Place objects on the scale.
- Press ZERO key.
- Unload the scale.
- The weight displayed before is showing a negative value and will be deducted automatically
during the next weighing procedure.
- The negative value will not be stored.
050100-Rev000-M25611 4

Tare function
The tare function allows to store a fixed weight that will be deducted each weighing procedure unless
deleted or replaced by another.
- Take weight of the object you want to put under tare (e.g. chair or a nurse to assist patient) as
described before and store the result by pressing the TARE key.
- The scale is now in NET weighing mode which is also indicated on the display.
- If for example you stored the weight of a chair or a nurse, she can step now on the scale
together with the patient or the patient may sit on the chair.
- The weight displayed is the weight of the patient.
- The scale identified the added weight. You may now use the scale for as many weighing
procedures and the stored value will always be deducted.
Definition and use of BMI (Body Mass Index)
The Body Mass Index is the ratio between height and weight squared. The BMI is meanwhile
accepted world wide – also by WHO (World Health Organization) - helping to evaluate the state of
nutrition and with that also the state of health of a person. The result is a tolerance value.
- Press the HOLD/BMI key for at least 3 seconds.
- By doing that you selected the storage mode for your own height in cm. You will also find the
word `HIGHT´ on the display.
- Once entered the mode you find a given value that you will probably have to change.
- The first digit (normally a 1) is blinking. Change indication if necessary by pressing the
UNIT/HEIGHT key by using the numeric key stored (0-9).
- Press the HOLD/BMI key again and you will get to the next digit.
- Repeat the procedure until your exact height is shown on the display.
- Press TARE key for confirmation and you will get back into the normal weighing mode.
- Press again HOLD/BMI key to enter the BMI mode.
- Step on the platform.
- The blinking display offers you both – your weight and your BMI.
- To deactivate the BMI mode press again HOLD/BMI key.
Evaluation of the Body Mass Index
BMI below 18
• The patient is not showing enough weight. Control nutrition to put on weight.
BMI between 18 and 20
• The patient is slightly under weighed. If he feels well there is no need for a change.
BMI between 20 and 25
• The patient is in the range of normal weight.
BMI between 25 and 30
• The patient is slightly overweighed. A reduction of weight is indicated or, is necessary if the
state of health is already affected (e.g. diabetes, high end blood pressure, heart diseases).
BMI over 30
• Reduction of weight is imperative. Also to visit a doctor is highly recommended.
HOLD function
By using the HOLD function the identified weight might be stored and is shown on the display even if
you stepped already off the scale. The advantage is to take care of the patient first and then take note
of the weight.
- Press HOLD/BMI key while scale is under load.
- The display shows a blinking arrow symbol next to the HOLD symbol.
- Once the scale is loaded with more than 3 kg the blinking stops.
- The weight displayed will now also show after unloading of the platform.
- To deactivate the Hold function press again HOLD/BMI key.
- If you are in Hold mode you might also change over to the Tare function by pressing the
TARE key which means both functions might be used simultaneously.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Cleaning
Before cleaning make sure the scale has been disconnected from the socket.
For cleaning just use a damp cloth or common disinfection fluids.
Do not use any aggressive cleaning fluids.
Make sure no water or cleaning fluids is penetrating the scale.
Your ADE scale is equipped with a mains adapter and rechargeable batteries.
If the display shows the symbol `Low´ the power pack needs to be recharged by using the adapter.
Safety Check
Do NOT use the scale
• If the mains adapter shows visible damages.
• if the mains adapter is not working properly any more
• After long storage in humid places
Please contact your dealer or service partner in those cases.
Storage and Transport
Please keep all original parts and pieces for an eventual sending back of the scale
in order to avoid any possible damage during transport which automatically leads to non warranty.
Disconnect all cables before transport and avoid unnecessary damages.
