12-14 NOVEMBER 2013
CTICC CAPE TOWN
SOUTH AFRICA
DIGITAL AFRICA IS POISED TO
EXPLODE – ENSURE YOU ARE
RIDING THE CREST OF THE WAVE…
Africa is at the verge of a data boom: consumers
and enterprises are hungry for content and services
beyond voice. What does it mean for the many
stakeholders in the market?
Telecoms operators are still investing heavily in their networks but are at
risk of no longer being the dominant players in the market. Meanwhile new
players (OTT, content providers, app developers) are gaining audiences but
not always generating the necessary revenues. How can all players ensure
profitability in this changing environment?
AfricaCom 2013 offers 3 days of strategic keynotes, specialist events,
workshops and networking to discuss and plan for the new challenges
in Africa’s digital market. Over 300 speakers will present the innovation,
strategic leadership and technological advances in Africa’s market, while
Heterogeneous Networks
for LTE and LTE Advanced
13 – 14 NOVEMBER 2013
Demand for higher capacity networks have driven
the adoption of high bandwidth systems like
LTE, however high bandwidth systems don’t fully
address the increasing demand for data capacity
in mobile cellular networks, Next generation
networks will rely on high density clusters of small
cells to yield capacity.
This 2 day course will describe the concepts
behind small cell systems and detail the
technology and challenges of deploying small
cell networks. LTE advanced includes femto,
relay and WiFi offload techniques to boost local
capacity, however managing the backhaul,
mobility and interference of such systems are
complex tasks that will be covered in this course.
This course is an essential primer for any
operator, engineer or planner that needs to fully
understand the nature of small cells, the capacity
increase possible with such systems and the
many challenges of Hetnet deployment
This certification programme covers the principles and execution of LTE
radio planning and optimisation. The course begins with a discussion of
the LTE physical layer explaining the time and frequency domain structures
and covering those aspects of the LTE radio interface that will have an
impact on coverage and capacity.
A detailed examination of LTE link
budgets is provided, identifying and
calculating the typical link budget
reference points and discussing
elements of the budgeting process
that are unique to LTE. Following the
calculation of link budget pathloss,
the course turns to propagation
models and cell radius prediction.
Typical models are discussed and
compared and full link budget and
radius predictions are carried out.
Course Contents:
Demand for higher capacity networks have driven the adoption of high bandwidth
systems like LTE, however high bandwidth systems don’t fully address the
increasing demand for data capacity in mobile cellular networks, Next generation
networks will rely on high density clusters of small cells to yield capacity.
This 2 day course will describe the concepts behind small cell systems and detail the
technology and challenges of deploying small cell networks. LTE advanced includes femto,
relay and WiFi offload techniques to boost local capacity, however managing the backhaul,
mobility and interference of such systems are complex tasks that will be covered in this course.
This course is an essential primer for any operator, engineer or planner that needs to fully
understand the nature of small cells, the capacity increase possible with such systems and the
many challenges of Hetnet deployment.
COURSE CONTENTS
• Small Cell Concepts
