Kent Johansson and his referee team have participated in
Alandia Cup since 2003.
Why did you choose Åland as the place to act as referees?
- In 2003 Västerfärnebo AIK football team had a great
number of young referees. To find enough matches for everybody,
I searched on the Internet and found Alandia Cup
that seemed to offer the right size of a tournament and age
category for our young referees.
What is the best thing about Alandia Cup?
- Alandia Cup has many fine things to offer; the football
club IFK Mariehamn stands for professional arrangements
and the entire team behind the tournament does a
great job.
- During Alandia Cup the referees share the accommodation
facilities with many of the teams, and we have the chance
to meet the players and their leaders outwith the football
fields. No doubt, there are always some who have opinions
of our work, but mostly we see happy faces.
- I can promise that we referees recommend Alandia Cup to
all teams we work with.

Why did you choose to participate in Alandia Cup 2006?
- There were many good reasons. Alandia Cup is exclusive
as you can participate in it only ‘once in a lifetime’, as one
of the boys put it. Being an IFK football club we support IFK
Mariehamn when it comes to traditions, culture and language.
What are the best ingredients of Alandia Cup?
- Speaking of football, we got all that we came for; nice gettogethers
within the team and also with the other teams.
The arrangements were good and the grass fields were fine.
- The most positive thing for me was that IFK Mariehamn
had succeeded in co-operating with competent referees who
kept up to high standard. HIFK is planning to make Alandia
Cup into an annual tradition for its 11-year-old players.

Mariebad
Mariebad is a swimming and spa centre where both
children and playful adults can enjoy themselves
outdoors at the beach, or indoors in the popular recreational
pool with waterfalls and swirls. From the tall
tower, a 55-metre winding waterslide runs down into
the pool.
· Recreational pool with water canons, stream canal,
cave with waterfall, hydro massage, jacuzzi, whirls etc.
· Walking distance, 500 m, from school accommodation
(package A). All packages (A, B & C) include
free entry to Mariebad during the tournament!

Tivoli Axels Nöjesfält
Axels Nöjesfält is the biggest mobile fairground in
Europe and offers fun experiences and rides that only
the largest amusement parks can provide. Alandia Cup
co-operates with the local association for mentally
handicapped persons that arranges the tivoli.
All packages (A, B & C) include free entry to the
tivoli and one ride ticket.
The tivoli is situated next to Mariebad and Maritime

Bowling
Idrottsgården’s bowling alley has eight laminated
lanes with automatic scoring service. The bowling hall
is open from Monday until Thursday during the tournament.
All packages (A, B & C) include free entry
to Bowling Hall during the tournament!

Maritime Quarter
By the shore of Slemmern Bay, just north of the Eastern
Harbour of Mariehamn, lies the Maritime Quarter,
a living marine centre with boat-building activity, a
smithy and facilities for traditional handicrafts, alongside
with a museum and sales of arts and crafts, food
and drink. There is a marina for traditional wooden
boats and ships, a 330-metre-long wharf and most
service amenities. The museum contains exhibitions of
ship and boat building from different time eras and of
farm-boats. There is also a museum shop. The galleass
Albanus, the schooner Linden and the well-boat Jehu
were built at the Maritime Quarter, where they are
based now, together with the schooner Nordboen and
the yacht Karolina. Some twenty other wooden craft of
various kinds have also been built here.

Pommern
The 4-mb Pommern in the Western Harbour in Mariehamn
serves as a memory of the great fleet of sailingships
who once had the town as their homeport.
The Pommern is unique in that she is still in original
condition and is shown as the cargo ship she once was.
All other existing ships in her class have been rebuilt at
some time. When you visit the ship you will also have
the chance to learn about the everyday life onboard
the ship in an exhibition depicting genuine objects,
documents, photographs and films.

Arenas
All matches are played on fine grass fields (if the
weather permits) in Mariehamn, often close to the
other amenities in town.
Wiklöf Holding Arena (WHA)
WHA is the main arena in Mariehamn and the home
ground of the league team IFK Mariehamn. Alandia
Cup’s final matches are played here. WHA is situated
centrally in Mariehamn, in a walking distance from
Western and Eastern harbours (approx. 500 m).
Backeberg sport ground (BB)
Backeberg is located 1.5 kilometres north of the centre
of Mariehamn and very close to the school where
the participants with package A are accommodated
(approx. 250 m). The matches of the A-package
teams are normally played at BB. The grass fields are
lined for two 11 player teams (alternatively for four 7
player teams) and there are two dressing rooms with
showers. The sport ground lies next to the church of
St. Mårten.
Ytternäs sport ground (YS)
Ytternäs sport ground is located 1.5 kilometres south
of the centre of Mariehamn. There are two lined
grass fields for 11 player teams (alternatively for
four 7 player teams) and six dressing rooms at the
adjacent Baltichallen.
