SERVICE PROVIDERS HAVE A DUTY TO ENSURE CAPACITY
BUILDING WITHIN THEIR RESPECTIVE ORGANISATIONS TO
ENHANCE QUALITY SERVICE PROVISION
STANDARD XII
Service providers shall promote knowledge & skills development
Section 12 . 01S e rvice providers shall ensure that staff receive basic, accredited and
standardised annual training on the following:
(a)

Sensitivity training on the nature, dynamics and social context related to sexual abuse
and domestic violence,
Communication and interviewing skills such as skills to deal with victims in an
empathetic, constructive and reassuring manner,
Basic administration skills,
Training on the court process including but not limited to:
(i)
(ii)
Court preparation,
Court procedure,
Signs and symptoms that point towards evidence of crime towards children,
Crisis assessment skills and techniques, especially with a need for making referrals.
Section 12 . 0 2Further training shall include:
(a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
(e)

(g)
Legislative and policy developments including but not limited to:
(i)
(ii)
The Constitution,
The Victims Charter and the Integrated Victim Empowerment Policy and other
relevant policies or standards,
Relevant Human Rights standards and principles,
Principles and ethical duties of their offices,
Diversity training,
Where applicable, methods to preserve and protect the integrity of evidential material
and questioning of victims for statement taking purposes,
Roles and services provided by other service providers,
New developments in service delivery improvements.
Section 12 . 0 3Service providers shall keep abreast of new developments in service delivery
improvement.
