MATCH REPORTS MARCH 24th
UNDER 7
We were at home this week for our last day of the season we had a much better turnout than the previous week and all arrived on time despite
Emma telling everyone to make sure they put their clocks back the night before ( just can’t get the staff!!). Also we had a last minute disruption
just before kick off when we had to move pitches due to another team double booking and despite the uplift and pitch with no nets everyone
was rearing to go and for the most of the first game we looked like a win was on the cards. A winding run from Niall who came from defence
and took it round most of their team and thundered in an amazing goal to give lead for the Saints. Shortly followed by a goal disallowed for
Delwin who had played well throughout after a late challenge was blown for an opposition free kick. Alastair charged at the opposition again out
on field with his no fear attitude and getting stuck into every challenge. Alfie stayed back in the defence covering Adam who had gone in goal
for this game and pulled off some fine saves. Ben and Delwin came close but were just denied on each occasion. Top Goalscorer Bradley
sealed another trademark goal to level the game. Alas as has happened a few times this year we just lost out but looked a strong side capable
of the win.
Our second and last game of the season had us finish with a win, which was deserved over both the games. Hamish, Yankuba, Connor and
Joshua came on for the second game and it wasn’t long before Bradley and Niall were back on the score sheet again. Hamish was in fine form
again showing how he has developed through the year to become a fantastic player for the team. We held onto the lead well as the opposition
came back at us but could only get one back thanks to the superb goalkeeping of Joshua and the all round great team performance.
I would like to thank all the team for the hard work they have put in this year through rain and shine and look forward to our summer
tournaments over the coming months. I would like to also thank all the families of the boys who have been supporting the team throughout the
year and the help and support they have given me as well in my first year. Well-done boys this year!!!!
UNDER 9
Well it’s the end of the season for the Sovereign Saints under 9’s and what a season it has been. These kids have given it their all and have
come away with a club record of 17 wins and 3 draws in the league games and 16 wins, 2 draws and just 2 losses in the league friendlies with
a combined total of 176 goals. That’s an unbeaten run in the league.
Credit goes to the coaches, Ian Stiles, Paul Jenkins and manager Ade Willoughby who put in their free time for the kids. Thanks to everyone
for their support.
UNDER 10 YELLOW
For the first time since the start of this year the boys in this game did what I knew they could and played a passing game. The ball was moved
around with confidence and assurance, at times from one side of the pitch to the other. The new formation of playing Jed Hipkiss at the back
with Christian, and Dominic Bastin up front with Ryan on the left of midfield and Lewis in the middle, really worked well. Lewis was able to link
up with both Ryan and Callum and set them on their way, who in turn fed Dominic. Callum opened the scoring with a skilful goal, taking his
seasons tally to 19, and Lewis put in the second through grit and determination. James, kept a clean sheet; this is so important to have a solid
and consistent keeper.
For the first ten minutes this was a very close second game, with the score 1-1. A fine goal from Joshua Smith, equalising. This takes his tally
so far to 13 (second highest scorer). At half time it was only 2-1, due mainly to some great saves from Connor. However, in the second half, we
lost our way slightly, and conceded several goals in quick succession. Marcus, run his socks off to earn man of the match.
UNDER 10 BLACK
Game 1 – The weather was great for this match and the boys played well. There was a lot of pressure from Denton at the start of the first half
but the boys defended well as a team and they grew into the game. With some good goalkeeping from stand in keeper Jamie Jeapes we went
in at half time at 0-0. The boys played well in the second half but got caught on the break a couple of times to go behind 2-0. They kept
pushing and a great shot by Ruan Burrell from a tight angle got one back for Saints before Denton got a third with the game finishing 3-1.
Man of the Match: Ruan Burrell
Game 2 – The second game was the same as the first with the match very even, the boys played well with good passing and tackles when
they were needed. A good attack by the Saints towards the end of the half saw the ball in the back of the net but Connor Jenkins effort was
disallowed with the 1 st half ending 0-0. The second half started well, but Denton managed to sneak a goal to take the lead. The boys pressed
on with Ruan Burrell popping up with an equaliser. There were great efforts from all the lads with Luke Snelgrove and Sammy Tolhurst coming
close and Ruan Burrell hitting the post. Denton were dangerous on the break and managed a further two goals with the final score again 3-1 to
Denton.
Man of the Match: Sammy Tolhurst
