Harry was born in the county seat, Homer, of Claiborne Parish inLouisiana. It's on the top
border of Louisiana, just to the west ofcenter.
He earned an electrical engineering degree at Louisiana StateUniversity in Baton Rouge.
His work after graduation was a career atTexas Instruments, head quartered in Dallas,
Dallas County, Texas. Hewas there in the heyday of that company's thrust into the
technologyindustry. Harry was said to have worked on the team that developedthat
company's very first transistor.
His hobby was sports cars. His interest and skills enabled him tobuild two sports cars in his
life. There was a wit in his thinking,and it's illustrated in one example given by the Rev.
Sherwood (Woody)Strodel in his Memorial Service at Highland Park Presbyterian Churchon
Friday afternoon, June 9. Harry always had some difficulty in hishearing. When waiting to
his name called at a restaurant, hearing thename "Waugh" over a loud roar of noise was
very difficult. So, hisintelligence told him merely to use a name that would be easier tohear
in the noise. He chose "Ajax." Such any easier name to hear. Heused that name in the
titles of three books he wrote during his life:"Ajax I," "Ajax II," and "More about Ajax."
