developing ways like that to be agood father.<br />

Thought his military assignments kept Mark living far and wide acrossthe nation and the<br />

world, he did a good job of keeping in touch withour part of the family, for which we always<br />

were appreciative. InApril 2006, he paid a visit to Peter, his brother, in Carrollton,Texas,<br />

near where we live (about 60 miles away). So, we had occasionfor Suzanne and I, along<br />

with our son, Taylor, to visit in the home ofPeter and Nancy in Carrollton. Later, Mark and<br />

Nancy came out to ourlittle ranch house for an evening of really good family catching<br />

upwhile Peter had to head off to San Antonio for his military duty.<br />

At this stage is life, Mark was about to retire <strong>from</strong> the Navy after 24years (20 years active<br />

duty and four years reserve duty). He was inthe process of seeking a call to serve an<br />

Evangelical PresbyterianChurch. At this time, he was concluding his military career as<br />

theCommander in charge of Chaplains at the Coast Guard Academy inConnecticut. He left<br />

some material for me about his history that hadbeen composed in this process of various<br />

church committeesinterviewing him, and I lay out here his composition of his history inthe<br />

Presbyterian church. I quote it word for word:<br />

"Baptized by maternal grandfather, the Rev. Dwight A. <strong>Sharpe</strong> (PCUS) atChrist Presbyterian<br />

graduated <strong>from</strong> Austin PresbyterianTheological Seminary (PCUS) and was the newly<br />

Presbytery camps in Missouri, and Montreat youthconferences.<br />
