history.
Patty was born in 1932, the year that Hattie W. Caraway, a Democratfrom Arkansas,
became the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate. (Shehad been appointed two months
earlier to fill the vacancy caused byher husband's death.)

Leland (or Buddy, as his family knows him) is a Reserve Elder atHighland Park Presbyterian
Church in Dallas where I have been on stafffor 22 years before my 2004 retirement.
Leland also is politically active and has served as a CountyDelegation Leader for his local
delegates to attend the TexasRepublican State Convention in 2002. He worked with me in
the SenateDistrict #30 Caucus, at which I served as the Temporary CaucusChairman to get
the group going. Leland was so kind to me as to makethe motion to make me permanant
Chairman, but I declined it in favoror the other man that others had intended to honor with
that role.
Leland was born the same day as was Jean Poiret (8/17/1926 -3/14/1992), the French
actor and playwright.
