6.2 DLR 605-HOW TO CALCULATE LICENSE FEE<br />

6.2.1 Definitions for Type Vehicle<br />

a. Determine purpose for which vehicle is used according to the following<br />

definitions:<br />

1) Leased-Any motor vehicle designed for transportation <strong>of</strong> passengers or<br />

property, used for such by the lessee who-under agreement with the<br />

owner-pays the owner a fee for use <strong>of</strong> the vehicle for a period <strong>of</strong> twelve<br />

months or longer, with no transfer <strong>of</strong> ownership.<br />

2) Private-Any motor vehicle designed for the transportation <strong>of</strong> passengers or<br />

property, operates as such by the owner or lessee for their convenience,<br />

not for compensation.<br />

3) For-Hire (Common or Contract Carrier)-Any motor vehicle designed for<br />

the transportation <strong>of</strong> passengers or property, used for such by the owner or<br />

lessee, for compensation.<br />

4) Rental- Any motor vehicle designed for the transportation <strong>of</strong> passengers or<br />

property, used, used for such by the renter who-under agreement with the<br />

owner-pays the owner a fee for use <strong>of</strong> the vehicle for a period <strong>of</strong> less than<br />

twelve months with no transfer <strong>of</strong> ownership. Title applications must<br />

include the rental license number.<br />

6.2.2 Definitions for Weight<br />

Determines weight <strong>of</strong> vehicle according to the following definitions:<br />

Note: All trucks, road tractors and semi-trailers are licensed according to gross weight: a<br />

truck operating as a single unit is licensed according to gross weight. If a truck is<br />

operated with a trailer, the fees are calculated on the combined gross weight <strong>of</strong> the units<br />

plus the weight <strong>of</strong> the load to be hauled. A tractor-trailer unit is licensed on the combined<br />

gross weight <strong>of</strong> both units plus the weight <strong>of</strong> the load to be hauled.<br />

a. Empty Weight- The weight <strong>of</strong> the vehicle exclusive <strong>of</strong> any load it may carry. For<br />

instructions on calculating fees based on empty weight see procedure DLR 800.<br />

b. Gross Weight- The empty weight <strong>of</strong> the vehicle(s) added to the weight <strong>of</strong> the load<br />

carried. For instructions on calculating fees based on gross weight see procedure<br />

DLR 800.<br />

1) determines appropriate license series according to charts located in DLR<br />

2) calculates fee for vehicle using appropriate charts in DLR 610<br />

6.3 DLR 610–EMISSIONS INSPECTION FEE<br />

a. If the vehicle is subject to an emissions inspection requirement (to be garaged in a<br />

non-attainment area, see “f.”), collect an additional $2.00 for one-year (or $4.00<br />

for two year) original or renewal registrations. The Emissions Inspection Fee will<br />

be distributed to the <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> Environmental Quality (DEQ) to support air<br />

quality programs.<br />
