1.10.10 Exchange <strong>of</strong> Plates/Decals<br />
If you change the type <strong>of</strong> your dealership, and this causes a change in the letter prefix on the dealer plates<br />
you use, you must exchange your old plates for new ones bearing the correct prefix.<br />
• You should submit to DMV/MVDB all old dealer plates and a completed DSD-9, “Application<br />
for <strong>Dealer</strong>/Drive-Away/Office Trailers Plates”<br />
1.10.11 Change in Corporate Status <strong>of</strong> Business Invalidates Plates<br />
If ownership <strong>of</strong> your business is by an individual or partnership and changes to ownership by a<br />
corporation, or vice versa, your old dealer plates may not be used by the new business.<br />
In order to obtain valid dealer plates, you must:<br />
a. return all old plates to DMV (You may not receive credit for or a refund for the unexpired plates)<br />
b. apply for new dealer plates, just as if you were establishing a new dealership<br />
1.10.12 Registration Card Furnished with <strong>Dealer</strong> Plates<br />
DMV issues a registration card with each dealer plate purchased by your business. The registration card<br />
indicates that the corresponding dealer plate is registered to your business and shows the type <strong>of</strong> your<br />
dealership, the makes <strong>of</strong> the vehicles you carry, and your dealer certificate number.<br />
1.10.13 Use <strong>of</strong> the Registration Card<br />
Drivers must carry the registration card at all times in the vehicle on which the corresponding dealer plate<br />
is being used. If a registration card is lost or destroyed, a reissue is available for a fee <strong>of</strong> $2.00 from any<br />
CSC.<br />
1.10.14 Liability Insurance Requirement<br />
You must carry the minimum limits <strong>of</strong> liability on each dealer plate and maintain liability insurance as<br />
long as the plate remains valid. If liability insurance is not maintained, dealer plates must be surrendered.<br />
1.10.15 How to Obtain <strong>Dealer</strong> Promotional Plates<br />
a. Submit a written request on a DSD-9A, “Application for Permanent/Temporary <strong>Dealer</strong><br />
Promotional Plates” from the dealership to DMV’s <strong>Dealer</strong> Services, along with promotional<br />
materials, giving the name <strong>of</strong> the event and time frame.<br />
b. request permission for the use <strong>of</strong> the plate; which may not exceed 30 consecutive days. An<br />
extension may be requested by submitting a DSD-9B and promotional material to support the<br />
extension.<br />
c. Upon receipt <strong>of</strong> the request for use <strong>of</strong> the promotional plate and proper verification <strong>of</strong> the special<br />
event, an authorization to use Promotional Plate (DSD-9B) will be sent to the dealer. The DSD-<br />
9B must be kept in the vehicle on which the license plate is displayed until the expiration <strong>of</strong> the<br />
authorization.<br />
NOTE: Promotional plates will be prorated. Reissues are not authorized.<br />
