1.8.3 Renewing Your <strong>Dealer</strong> License<br />

DMV/MVDB includes in your renewal packet forms that are needed by your dealership.<br />

a. DSD-7, “Application for Certificate <strong>of</strong> Qualification/Salesperson's License”<br />

b. DSD-9 “Application for <strong>Dealer</strong>/Drive-Away/Office Trailers Plates”<br />

c. DSD-10 “Application for <strong>Motor</strong> Vehicle <strong>Dealer</strong> License for Initial License or Renewal”<br />

d. DSD-13 / MVDB-22 “Application for Permanent/Temporary <strong>Dealer</strong> License”<br />

e. DSD-21 “Record <strong>of</strong> All Wholesale Sales and Retail Sales Registered Out <strong>of</strong> State”<br />

To apply for renewal <strong>of</strong> your dealer license you must:<br />

a. Check the forms sent to ensure you have all the necessary forms for your business.<br />

b. If any forms are missing contact DMV/MVDB for replacement forms.<br />

c. Check all <strong>of</strong> the preprinted information for correctness.<br />

d. Complete the applicable form(s).<br />

e. Complete a certified DSD-21 “Record <strong>of</strong> All Wholesale Sales and Retail Sales Registered Out <strong>of</strong><br />

State” to identify the additional vehicles sold at wholesale or to out-<strong>of</strong>-state residents. This will be<br />

used to determine the number <strong>of</strong> dealer and temporary plates authorized.<br />

f. Submit to DMV/MVDB completed license application form(s).<br />

g. A copy <strong>of</strong> your buyers order form must be submitted for approval as outlined in § 46.2-1530. If<br />

the dealer charges a processing fee or dealer’s business license tax, both fees must be listed on the<br />

Buyer’s Order.<br />

h. appropriate fees, renew for two years by doubling all license fees<br />

1.8.4 Renewing Your Individual License<br />

DMV/MVDB includes in your renewal packet the DSD-7, “Application for Certificate <strong>of</strong><br />

Qualification/Salesperson's License” (One for each licensed employee)<br />

a. check the forms sent and make sure you have an application for each salesperson, obtain blank<br />

forms from DMV/MVDB, if needed<br />

b. check preprinted identifying information for corrections-make any necessary corrections<br />

c. have salesperson complete DSD-7 and obtain proper signatures<br />

d. submit to DMV/MVDB the completed DSD-7 along with appropriate fees<br />

1.8.5 Failure to Renew Licenses<br />

If you do not properly renew your dealer license certificate by the last day <strong>of</strong> your month <strong>of</strong> expiration, it<br />

will become unlawful for you to operate a dealership. If this happens and you wish to continue in<br />

business you must:<br />

a. reapply for all business license certificates and pay the required fees in full<br />

b. reapply for dealer license plates and pay the required fees<br />

c. have any salespersons who have not renewed their license apply for a salesperson’s license and<br />

pay the required fees in full<br />

Note: Car and truck dealers licensed by the MVDB may renew up to 30 days after expiration upon<br />

payment <strong>of</strong> a late fee.<br />
