c. Application for a Factory Representative License for each person who will be operating as a<br />

factory representative. (See procedure DLR 130 for information on factory representative’s<br />

licenses)<br />

1.6.4 Inspection by DMV Investigator<br />

After you have applied for a Factory Branch License Certificate, a DMV Investigator will come to your<br />

proposed business site to conduct an inspection, (only if located in <strong>Virginia</strong>). This inspection will be the<br />

same as for a newly established manufacturer. (For Details <strong>of</strong> the inspection procedure see DLR 105,<br />

paragraph “Inspection by DMV Investigator”.) You will be notified <strong>of</strong> the date and time <strong>of</strong> inspection.<br />

1.6.5 Issuance <strong>of</strong> Your Factory Branch License Certificate<br />

If all aspects <strong>of</strong> your application and inspection meet the requirements, DMV will issue you a Factory<br />

Branch <strong>Dealer</strong> License Certificate. Your Factory Branch <strong>Dealer</strong> License Certificate will be mailed to<br />

you.<br />

1.6.6 Changes Which Affect Your Factory Branch License<br />

a. If the status <strong>of</strong> your Factory Branch changes in any way, you must record these changes with<br />

DMV by filing a DSD-10, “Application for a <strong>Motor</strong> Vehicle <strong>Dealer</strong> License, Initial License or<br />

Renewal” indicating the new information. DMV then issues by mail a new certificate <strong>of</strong> Factory<br />

Branch License.<br />

b. You must pay the full or regular license fee for changing your ownership status (individual to<br />

Corporation or vice versa).<br />

c. There will be no fee for<br />

• changing the “trading as” name <strong>of</strong> your business<br />

• changing the line makes sold by your Factory Branch.<br />

• changing your location (Your new location will be inspected by a DMV investigator.)<br />

1.6.7 Renewing Your Factory Branch License Certificate<br />

(See procedure DLR 135 for information on how to renew your Factory Branch license.)<br />

1.7 DLR 130-HOW TO OBTAIN A SALESPERSON’S LICENSE<br />

• Code <strong>of</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong>: §§ 46.2-1512, 46.2-1912, 46.2-1992.10, 46.2-1993.10<br />

1.7.1 Who Needs a Salesperson’s License<br />

Every person who sells or promotes the sale <strong>of</strong> vehicle in <strong>Virginia</strong> must obtain an individual license as a<br />

salesperson.<br />

1.7.2 Period <strong>of</strong> Validity <strong>of</strong> License Certificate<br />

All salespersons’ licenses expire on the last day <strong>of</strong> the month <strong>of</strong> expiration which will correspond with the<br />

expiration <strong>of</strong> employer’s dealer certificate.<br />

1.7.3 Applying for Your Salesperson’s License<br />

a. Before you apply for a salesperson’s license, you must first be employed by a licensed dealer.<br />

b. Each salesperson must be certified by holding a valid Certificate <strong>of</strong> Qualification. For more<br />
