1.5.8 Changes in the Status <strong>of</strong> Your Principal Business<br />
a. When any change occurs in the ownership or operation <strong>of</strong> your principal business, you must<br />
record the changes with DMV/MVDB and obtain a new or updated license for each supplemental<br />
place <strong>of</strong> business you operate.<br />
b. The requirements pertaining to your principal business are listed in procedure DLR 110. In<br />
addition to meeting these requirements you should complete and file with DMV/MVDB, form<br />
DSD-13/ MVDB-22, “Application for Permanent/Temporary Supplemental <strong>Motor</strong> <strong>Dealer</strong><br />
License” for each <strong>of</strong> your supplemental locations.<br />
c. You must pay the full or regular license fee in regard to your supplemental place <strong>of</strong> business for<br />
changing the ownership status <strong>of</strong> your dealership (individual to Corporation or vice versa).<br />
There will be no fee in regard to your supplemental place <strong>of</strong> business for:<br />
• Changing the trade name <strong>of</strong> your business<br />
• Changing the type <strong>of</strong> your dealership<br />
• Changing the line makes sold by your franchised dealership<br />
1.5.9 Changing Location <strong>of</strong> a Supplemental Place <strong>of</strong> Business<br />
If you change the location <strong>of</strong> a supplemental dealer place <strong>of</strong> business you must update your Supplemental<br />
<strong>Dealer</strong> License.<br />
The supplemental place <strong>of</strong> business must be less than 500 yards from your principal location.<br />
You should submit a form DSD-13 or MVDB-22 to DMV/MVDB (no fee is required).<br />
Your new location will be inspected by a DMV investigator or MVDB field representative.<br />
1.5.10 Renewing Your Supplemental <strong>Dealer</strong> License Certificate<br />
(See procedure DLR 135 for information on how to renew your Supplemental <strong>Dealer</strong> License.)<br />
1.6 DLR 125-HOW TO OBTAIN A FACTORY BRANCH LICENSE CERTIFICATE<br />
1.6.1 Who Needs a Factory Branch License Certificate<br />
A supplemental place <strong>of</strong> business operated by a vehicle manufacturer is classified as a factory branch.<br />
Any factory branch conducting business in <strong>Virginia</strong> must obtain a factory branch license. The<br />
manufacturer’s home <strong>of</strong>fice must either hold or have applied for a valid manufacturer license in order to<br />
obtain a factory branch license.<br />
1.6.2 Period <strong>of</strong> Validity <strong>of</strong> Factory Branch License Certificate<br />
A Factory Branch License Certificate is good for a period <strong>of</strong> up to one year. All Factory Branch License<br />
Certificates will expire on the last day <strong>of</strong> the month <strong>of</strong> expiration.<br />
1.6.3 Applying for Your Factory Branch License Certificate<br />
You must submit to DMV:<br />
a. form DSD-10, “Application for a <strong>Motor</strong> Vehicle <strong>Dealer</strong> License, Initial License or Renewal”<br />
b. appropriate fees<br />
