1.5.3 Period <strong>of</strong> Validity <strong>of</strong> License Certificate<br />

a. A supplemental dealer license certificate is valid for a period <strong>of</strong> up to two years. All license<br />

certificates will expire on the last day <strong>of</strong> the month <strong>of</strong> expiration.<br />

b. A temporary supplemental license may be issued for a period not to exceed seven days.<br />

1.5.4 Applying for Your Supplemental <strong>Dealer</strong> License Certificate<br />

You should submit to DMV or to the MVDB as appropriate:<br />

a. Form DSD-13, “Application for Permanent/Temporary Supplemental <strong>Motor</strong> <strong>Dealer</strong> License” (a<br />

minimum <strong>of</strong> fifteen days prior to sale for temporary supplementals)<br />

b. license Fee <strong>of</strong> $20.00 for DMV licensed dealers, or $40.00 for MVDB licensed dealers (if a<br />

permanent location for less than a full year the fee is pro-rated for MVDB license holders)<br />

c. pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> proper zoning<br />

d. Franchise dealers, for temporary supplementals, must provide pro<strong>of</strong> or certify on form MVDB-22,<br />

that all franchise dealers <strong>of</strong> the same line-make in the area <strong>of</strong> responsibility <strong>of</strong> the proposed<br />

location do not oppose the issuance <strong>of</strong> a temporary supplemental license.<br />

e. Independent dealers may conduct a temporary sale in the same political jurisdiction as the dealer is<br />

licensed or within a contiguous jurisdiction. An exception to the above may be allowed if the<br />

dealer provides a notice and invitation to participate in the sale to all licensed dealers in the<br />

jurisdiction <strong>of</strong> the sale 30 days prior to the date <strong>of</strong> the sale.<br />

Note: any such dealer accepting the invitation must also apply for a supplemental location license.<br />

1.5.5 Inspection by DMV Investigator/MVDB Field Investigator<br />

After you have applied for a Supplemental or Temporary Supplemental <strong>Dealer</strong> License, a DMV<br />

Investigator or a MVDB field representative will come to your supplemental location to conduct an<br />

inspection. You will be notified ahead <strong>of</strong> time by phone <strong>of</strong> the date and time the inspection will take<br />

place.<br />

You are not required to maintain a permanent building; however the Investigator/Representative will<br />

check to ensure your location meets the following requirements:<br />

• pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> proper zoning<br />

• executed lease or document <strong>of</strong> ownership <strong>of</strong> your property<br />

• sign showing trade name with letters at least six inches high<br />

1.5.6 Issuance <strong>of</strong> Your Supplemental <strong>Dealer</strong> License<br />

If all aspects <strong>of</strong> your application and inspection meet the requirements DMV or MVDB issues you a<br />

Supplemental or Temporary Supplemental <strong>Dealer</strong> License. Your license will be mailed to you.<br />

1.5.7 Licenses for Salespersons Employed at Your Supplemental Place <strong>of</strong> Business<br />

Any salespersons who work at your supplemental place <strong>of</strong> business must obtain their required licenses<br />

through your principal place <strong>of</strong> business. (See procedure DLR 130 for information on salespersons<br />

licenses.)<br />
