<strong>Virginia</strong> <strong>Dealer</strong>’s <strong>Manual</strong><br />

If you change your license from one <strong>of</strong> these preceding types to another type <strong>of</strong> dealer you must submit to<br />

DMV/MVDB<br />

a. all old dealer plates<br />

b. form DSD-9, “Application for <strong>Dealer</strong>/Drive-Away/Office Trailers Plates”, requesting exchange <strong>of</strong><br />

dealer plates.<br />

1.3.6 Changing the Location <strong>of</strong> Your <strong>Dealer</strong>ship<br />

You must obtain a new <strong>Dealer</strong> License Certificate when you move your dealership from one location<br />

to another.<br />

You must notify DMV/MVDB, 30 days in advance and you must apply for a new <strong>Dealer</strong> License<br />

Certificate.<br />

In all cases, submit to DMV/MVDB<br />

a. form DSD-10, “Application for a <strong>Motor</strong> Vehicle <strong>Dealer</strong> License, Initial License or Renewal”<br />

b. pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> proper zoning.<br />

If the move locates your dealership in a different political subdivision (i.e. county, city, and town) you<br />

must:<br />

a. pay the appropriate license fee<br />

b. Your new business site must be inspected. After you have applied for a new <strong>Dealer</strong> License<br />

Certificate, a DMV/MVDB representative will come to your new business site and conduct an<br />

inspection. This Inspection will be the same as an inspection performed for a newly established<br />

dealership.<br />

1.4 DLR 115- WHAT TO DO IF YOU GO OUT OF BUSINESS<br />

1.4.1 Canceling Your <strong>Dealer</strong>’s License<br />

When you cease operation as a motor vehicle dealer in <strong>Virginia</strong>, you should complete all pending title<br />

and registration work, and submit to DMV/MVDB:<br />

a. your <strong>Dealer</strong> License Certificate<br />

b. all dealer license plates which have been issued to your dealership<br />

c. all current salespersons licenses <strong>of</strong> personnel, unless they have secured employment with another<br />

motor vehicle dealer<br />

d. all temporary license plates left in stock. (You may request a refund if you are returning at least<br />

10 sets <strong>of</strong> temporary plates in an unbroken series.)<br />

e. all VSA-27 Forms “Temporary Registration Receipt” remaining in stock<br />

f. all fees and taxes collected with the title applications and all supporting documents The former<br />

licensee shall continue to maintain and make available to DMV dealer records required by the<br />

<strong>Dealer</strong> Licensing Act.<br />

1.4.2 Inspection by DMV Investigator/MVDB Field Representative<br />

When DMV receives notice that you are going out <strong>of</strong> business, a DMV/MVDB representative will come<br />

to your place <strong>of</strong> business to conduct an inspection and insure compliance with DMV/MVDB regulations.<br />

After the inspection, the representatives will complete and file with DMV Headquarters DSD-42/MVDB-<br />

25, “Record <strong>of</strong> Inspection for Cancellation”.<br />
