Welcome to the Football NSW F-League
The inaugural Football NSW Futsal F-League Competition is ready to commence. This is an important step in
the development and future direction of Futsal.
The competition will feature the top players this country has to offer. The six clubs competing hail from
different geographical regions. These pioneer clubs are contesting the right to be a permanent part of history
in claiming the achievement to be crowned Champions of the inaugural Futsal F-League.
I would like to welcome Parramatta Blues (NSW), Dural Warriors (NSW), Maccabi Hakoah (NSW), St Albans
Strikers Futsal Club (VIC), Inner City FC (VIC) and Boomerangs FS (ACT) in what will be a fiercely competitive
league for all involved. These Clubs need to be acknowledged for their commitment to pioneering this
competition in conjunction with Football NSW.
The introduction of the F-League gives Futsal players the chance to develop their skills all year round,
providing top class competition. This is an opportunity for the best talented players and those aspiring to be
among the best to participate in a league.
Football NSW is seeking to further develop the sport of Futsal and entrench it as part of the Football Family
and Community. The Football Federation of Australia shares this vision and has endorsed the F-League; a
significant step forward for the code in this country.
Football NSW is optimistic the F-League will be the catalyst for a truly National Futsal League. A League which
would lead to the possible inclusion for the winner of the F-League as Australia’s entry in the AFC Futsal Club
Championships.
I would like to thank Football Federation Victoria, Capital Football and Football Federation Australia for their
strong show of support and willingness to work collaboratively with Football NSW in the next phase of lifting
the profile and importance of Futsal to the next level.
Thank you for your commitment to futsal and best wishes for the season.
Boomerangs FS
History: Boomerangs F.S is the inaugural representative Futsal club of the ACT affiliated with Capital Football
the governing body of football in Canberra and surrounding regions. Boomerangs F.S. offers a unique
opportunity for players in the Canberra region to play and train weekly under nationally accredited Futsal
coaches. At present no other club organisation offers this opportunity to futsal players in the ACT region.
Boomerangs currently boasts 11 teams ranging in age from 10/11 year olds to the Open Age Men and
Women’s categories. Boomerangs currently participates locally in the Men's and Women's Capital Football
Premier League, and interstate in the Football NSW Premier/Super League competitions.
The Coach: Angelo Konstantinou - Angelo has a long history in Futsal. He has 20 years
representing his State and a current member of the Australian National team,
Konstantinou will hope to put his vast Futsal knowledge into practice when the
Boomerangs endeavour to claim the inaugural F-League Championship. As a player/
coach Konstantinou will need to lead by example if Boomerangs FS wish to achieve this
lofty goal.
Player to watch: Angelo Konstantinou - Current Futsalroo Captain and ACT Cobras stalwart will, once again,
be between the Goalposts for Boomerangs. Konstantinou is known for his outstanding distribution with both
hands and feet. Konstantinou will be using the F-League to impress National Team Selectors in a bid to retain
his place in the Futsalroo squad.
Rising Star: Ryan Keir & Glenn Smith are the future of Futsal in the Capital. Both of these players have
represented the ACT at the National Championships since they were age eligible and were part of the young
ACT Youth Men Cobras who finished on the wrong end of a 2-1 score line at the recent Football Federation
Australia National Championships. Both players will be looking to stake a claim for senior rep honours with
ACT and hopefully the National Futsalroos team over the coming years.
Dural Warriors
History: Dural Warriors, is the representative Futsal club of Dural
Sport & Leisure Centre competing in the elite Football NSW Futsal Premier League competition. Dural
Warriors has a proud history in NSW Futsal competitions, taking many titles in competitions since the Clubs’
inception in 1994.
Again, season 2010/11 has seen Dural Warriors have had another successful campaign. Their Men’s team
were Minor Premiers and three of our teams (12yrs girls, Youth Men & Men) competed in Grand Finals. Their
12yrs girls and Men’s teams both lost in the Grand Final by a single goal. Their Youth Men's team took out the
2010/11 Championship winning against Mascot Vipers 5-3
The Coach: Rob Varela is the Australian Futsalroos assistant coach and has vast
experience in the game. Varela’s tactical knowledge of the game was the one of key
reasons why the Warriors were difficult to defeat in the FNSW Futsal Premier League.
With Varela’s experience and knowhow will see his side pitted as a Title favorite,
especially with Australian Futsalroos Tobias Seeto and Greg Giovenali at his disposal.
Player to watch: Tobias Seeto is a vital member of this young Warriors side. Having
represented Dural and NSW through all the age groups from 13 years of age. Seeto
recently returned form Spain having played professionally for Players de Castellon in
Spain in the U19, U21s and then for Lanzarote. Seeto has vast experience despite his
young age, a current Australia Futsalroo and has experienced Asian Football
Confederation Futsal Championships in 2010. Seeto plays generally in defence, Look
for Seeto to have a big impact in the F-League.
Rising Star: Young Wade Giovenali is the youngest member of the squad and already
looks likely to follow in the foot steps of older brothers Greg and Rhys to represent
his country. Giovenali has had a taste of playing above his age with the Warriors in
the FNSW Premier League and didn't take a backward step. Giovenali may get limited
minutes but he is definitely a player of the future.
CLUB DIRECTORY
Inner City FC
History: Inner City FC was founded in 2009 in Victoria by Futsal Oz CEO and Inner City
FC manager Peter Parthimos. Proudly affiliated with the FFV, Inner City are based at
the home of the V-League, the Futsal Oz centre. Inner City FC have taken it upon themselves to lift the
standard and profile of Futsal in Victoria, and even though Inner City FC is only two years old, they have
already tasted success in a major tournament in Victoria, as the Inner City FC Lions by claiming the Melbourne
Futsal League Title in their first attempt. Hoping to build upon the awards in their trophy cabinet, Inner City FC
are proud to be a part of the inaugural season of the F-League and can't wait to test out their skills against the
nations best.
The Coach: Coach of the Inner City side, Paul Vidic, is also the current manager of
V-League side Ashburton FC who he guided to the top four in the 2009 season and the
Cup semi-finals in the 09-10 season. After having a break from managing last season,
Vidic has come back to his beloved Ashburton with more hunger than ever as he tries to
claim his first piece of silverware in the V-League. Vidic has also enjoyed success in
managing on a National scale by taking the Victorian State team to the final of the National
Futsal Championships in 2011. A point which Victoria were unable to reach in 32
years.
Player to watch: Fernando De Moraes is the talisman and leader of the Inner City FC side.
De Moraes, who is a member of the Australian Futsal team, has enjoyed success
throughout his entire career, including winning the VPL with South Melbourne FC in 2006,
winning the VPL player of the year award in 2010, claiming the V-League MVP award in
2009-10 and also captaining the Futsalroos in many international tournaments. De Moraes
is one of the hardest working members in the Inner City FC squad, never shies away from
competition and always leads by example. Lifting the F-League title may not be out of the
question if Fernando is firing on all cylinders.
Rising Star: Richie Ferguson is certainly an up and coming young star of the Inner City FC
side. Ferguson, who is only 17, made his V-League debut with Pascoe Vale FC last season
and was a major factor in helping Pascoe Vale FC complete the League and Cup double. He
is very composed on the ball and unfazed by marking some of the Leagues best players.
Ferguson's never-say-die attitude allowed him to score an impressive 20 goals in 12 games,
so it was only fitting that Ferguson's stand out performance was awarded with the inaugural
V-League young player of the year award. The young Brit will certainly be one to watch in
this seasons F-League.
Maccabi Hakoah FC
The Team: Maccabi Hakoah Futsal was born in the winter of 2008 as
John Myers, Gareth Naar and Dale Levin saw a gap in the Eastern Suburbs for Futsal. A Club driven by its
players and run for its players, Maccabi Hakoah FC has a strong belief that Futsal can find its own identity in
Australia and has an extremely bright future. Forging its way to compete in international tournaments
Maccabi has competed in Portugal vs. SLB Benfica as well as competing in the NZ National League where it
won the title. Maccabi Hakoah FC play in the Football NSW Super League leading the way in the Open Men’s
division for the past few seasons.
The Coach: Steven Knight is the current Futsalroo coach, who as a player has represented
Australia in 2 FIFUSA World Cups as well as tours to the likes of Brazil, and plyed his trade
in the early days of Futsal in Australia with the Sydney Tornados. Knight is now instilling his
philosophies to the young Maccabi Hakoah FC team which has them playing a exciting
brand of Futsal. Maccabi Hakoah FC have had a great two years under Knight which has
seen them win 3 Minor premierships, 2 Championships and 1 National League title (in NZ).
Player to watch: Playmaker Doron Pozniak is the inspirational leader of this Maccabi
Hakoah FC side and takes it upon himself to lead by example. With his never say die
attitude is a asset to any side and will ensure that the Maccabi outfit will be a tough side to
beat. Pozniak recently lead Maccabi Hakoah FC to victory in the recent NZ Football National
Futsal League and would love to get a chance to lift the F-League title.
Rising Star: Jarrod Basger is a exciting young flanker who won the Goalden boot award in
the recent NZ Football National Futsal League. Basger’s goals in NZ were vital to Maccabi
Hakoah FC running out Champions of that Competition. Basger’s dream season also saw
him win the prestigious MVP award in the Youth Men’s Competition at the 2011 FFA Futsal
National Championships held in Canberra. Basger has a knack of scoring crucial goals and
Coach Steven Knight will be hoping this continues throughout the F-League.
Parramatta Blues
History: Parramatta Blues Futsal Club started in 1993 by Justin McLeay, Steven Luburic
and Robert Issa. Parramatta Blues were played in the NSW Super League 2008/09 but withdrew from the
2009/10 competition they are now trying to bring the family oriented Club back to elite Futsal. The “Blues”
were created for kids within the Parramatta area to develop their skills and expose them to this exciting
game.
The F-League may be a steep learning curve for young squad but expect them to cause a few surprises along
the way.
The Coach: Justin McLeay and Steven Luburic will take the reins in the inaugural season of the F-League.
McLeay will be in a player/coach role during the F-League and has experience at various levels of Futsal. The
effective coaching relationship between Luburic and McLeay will be vital if Parramatta Blues are to push for a
top four finish.
Player to watch: Peter Gaffney was a standout in the recent FNSW Futsal Super League for
South Coast Tiapans. Gaffney who still plays both forms of the game at the elite leve.
Gaffney has a great distribution and also is quite capable of being a regular on the score
sheet, Lets hope Gaffney can be available each match as his goals could be the difference
as the “Blues” battle for a semi final position.
Rising Star: Stipe Jakovljevic will be a player to keep an eye on. The young Flanker who
has all the tricks and a good eye for goal, has only been playing Futsal for a short period of
time. He will be looking to get off to a good start in Parramatta Blues opening fixture.
St Albans Strikers FC
History: Founded in 2006, the St Albans Strikers Futsal Club has been involved at the highest level of Futsal in
Victoria for the last 5 years. The club has two senior teams and six junior teams playing in the 2011 FFV
Melbourne Futsal League, which is played in recreation centres across Melbourne. They also enter teams in
the annual FFV Club Futsal Championships and have a very strong club competition with over 30 Senior teams
and 32 Junior teams playing in our respective weekly leagues.
The club was founded by Robert Lakovski, a teacher at St Albans Secondary College. In 1998 he was appointed
PE Teacher. He promised to start a Futsal program at the school, and in the process make St Albans Secondary
College a leading Futsal school in Melbourne. It didn’t take long for the silverware to start collecting, with
currently the school has won over 15 Victorian Championships in the last 13 years. In the first decade of the
21 st Century, Futsal grew in popularity until every lunchtime at school was taken up with futsal matches being
played in competitive leagues. With the competitions running at full capacity, it was decided to take the
leagues to afterschool and open the Competition to the community. It was at this moment that the St Albans
Strikers Futsal club was born.
They also conduct coaching clinics for new players to Futsal in the 6 – 13 year age group and have over 350
committed players across all age groups. They are one of the biggest and most successful Futsal Clubs in
Victoria
One of the greatest moments for the Club was the 2009 Melbourne Futsal League Championship win by our
Senior Men’s team.
The Coach: Robert Lakovski had a extensive outdoor career before injury forced him into early retirement and
Robert has been coaching Futsal ever since. Robert now has 13 years Coaching under his belt and that
experience will serve him well in the F-League. Most recently Robert lead the St Albans Strikers Senior Men’s
team to the 2009 Melbourne Futsal League championship.
Player to watch: Irzad Spijodic will most certainly be the one to watch out
for the Strikers. The Strong target is a former product of the St Albans
Secondary College Futsal Program, Irzad is one of the loyal players who has
been playing at the Club since it was founded. Top goal scorer of the 2009
MFL, the Strikers will be looking to Irzad to be a regular on the Strikers
scoresheet if they are to taste victory in the season one of the F-League.
