Miller, CPA Frank Van Kirk Director Treasurer Principal August 2, 2010 Public School Choice Notification Letter Dear Parents: This letter is to let you know that Franklin Local Community School (FLCS) has been identified as in need of improvement. School Improvement means that your school did not meet Ohio’s goals in reading, mathematics or attendance for two years in a row or more. . The students at FLCS did not meet Ohio’s adequate yearly progress goals in the following areas: the ALL group in reading and math for 2007-08, 2008-2009, and 2009-2010. When schools do not meet the adequate yearly progress goals, students must be given choice to stay at that school or to enroll in another school. Your child can attend a similar school that is NOT in need of improvement and the district will pay for transportation. You have the following choice to remain at Franklin Local Community School or to attend a similar school that you need to contact to enroll: • Grades 9-12 could attend Philo High School in the Franklin Local School District. • Grade 7-8 could attend East Muskingum Middle School in the East Muskingum Local School District or West Muskingum Middle School in the West Muskingum Local School District. Attached is a list of information about those schools to help you make your choice. Participating in the school choice option with provided transportation is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Please complete the attached form by September 10th to let us know which school you would like your child to attend. You may request free tutoring on a limited basis in place of transferring your child to another school. If you decide to keep your child at Franklin Local Community School, simply have him/her report to school on the opening day. Our local report card [http://www.ode.state.oh.us/reportcard] and/or the sheet attached shows how well Franklin Local Community School did when compared with other schools. To help Franklin Local Community School get out of School Improvement, we will develop a plan to help our students do better in reading and math for the coming year. You are invited to join us to help make that happen.
