Steve is currently working as National Trade Services Adviser for British Chambers of<br />

Commerce (BCC) <strong>and</strong> uses his first-h<strong>and</strong> experience of international trade to develop<br />

<strong>and</strong> promote UK Chamber services to exporters. Steve is a Chartered Marketer<br />

<strong>and</strong> member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. In his later position of Manager-International<br />

Trade Certification, Steve was responsible for management <strong>and</strong><br />

administration of Certification Services through the network of more than 60 British<br />

Chambers on behalf of UK Government. Steve joined BCC in 1989, in the position of<br />

Export <strong>and</strong> Trade Manager, developing the range of export services offered through<br />

the UK chamber network.<br />

Lars works in the Chief Economist Unit of the European Commission’s Directorate<br />

General for Trade, which he joined in 2004. He is also Associate Professor at Lund<br />

University, Sweden, from where he obtained his doctoral degree in economics. He<br />

is specialized in regional <strong>and</strong> bilateral aspects of European Union (EU) trade policy,<br />

including EU trade policy towards developing countries, areas in which he has<br />

published widely. Previously, he worked for the European Commission’s Directorate<br />

General for External Relations <strong>and</strong> he has also served as a Special Advisor in the<br />

Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.<br />

Evert Jan started to work for the Chamber of Commerce for the Northern Netherl<strong>and</strong>s<br />

in 2005 as a senior Trade Consultant. He advises companies in his region how<br />

to strategically enter foreign markets. He also organizes trade missions, seminars<br />

<strong>and</strong> workshops. He is secretary of the Frisian Export club, Advisory Board Member of<br />

the International Business <strong>and</strong> Management Studies <strong>and</strong> is member of the Northern<br />

Netherl<strong>and</strong>s initiative of Local Government, Education <strong>and</strong> Entrepreneurship to<br />

Dominique is the Executive Director of the Union of French Chambers of Commerce<br />

experience in this particular field as well as in the education sector in France <strong>and</strong><br />

abroad. He has been Executive Director of the French Chamber of Commerce <strong>and</strong><br />

Industry in South Africa <strong>and</strong> recently in Morocco; Director for International <strong>and</strong><br />

European Affairs of the Assembly of French Chambers of Commerce <strong>and</strong> Industry<br />

Wouter Van Gulck is General Manager of the Federation of Belgian Chambers<br />

of Commerce since March 2007. Prior to this, he was involved in international<br />

trade promotion as a trade commissioner for the Flemish Region of Belgium in<br />

Johannesburg <strong>and</strong> in New York, <strong>and</strong> as deputy chief of cabinet at the cabinet of the<br />

Vice-Minister-President of the Flemish Region. Wouter has a master degree in law<br />

George was born in Greece, grew up in Egypt, studied in Engl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> USA, <strong>and</strong> now lives<br />

<strong>and</strong> works in Switzerl<strong>and</strong>. He began his career in a teaching <strong>and</strong> research engineering<br />

at the University of Cambridge, Engl<strong>and</strong>. Then he worked for a major internationally<br />

active engineering consulting firm in Switzerl<strong>and</strong>. His last position in the firm was that of<br />

president. In 1990 he joined KPMG Switzerl<strong>and</strong> as a partner on the director level. His first<br />

responsibility was to head the international management consulting division. Now he is<br />

Visiting Professor of Development Economics at the Edinburgh Napier University, President<br />

of the International Institute of Investment Promotion, <strong>and</strong> Senior Partners of DIAS<br />

Management. Through conducting business operations in over 80 countries, George has<br />

gained extensive international experience <strong>and</strong> an ability to operate across cultural barriers.<br />
