Åland every year. There are events of every possible type,
all year round and for all tastes. Everything from literature
festivals to a Viking Market, from pop music festivals to

EVENTS IN 2010
4–7 Feb Mariehamn Winter Jazz. Top-class jazz
from the Nordic countries. Small, intimate performances
where the audience can really get close to
the performers.
4–6 Mar Vera Film Festival, Alandica. The largest
festival of short films and documentaries in the
Swedish speaking parts of Finland.
19–21 Mar Mariehamn Literature Days. A place
for authors and literature lovers from the Nordic
and Baltic countries to meet.
20–21 Mar Bridal & Party Fair. Two inspiring days
that help you to succeed with your party arrangements.
27 Jun–3 July Åland Organ Festival. Åland’s
longest-running annual music event. Recitals in the
atmospheric surroundings of Åland’s churches.
2–3 July Åland Country Music Festival. A music
festival for fans of country music and dancing.
Great performers, excellent food and plenty of
dancing.
2–4 July Geta Poetry and Song. A unique festival
for people who enjoy listening to poetry and music.
9–11 July The Gustav Vasa days. Colourful family
event which takes you back to the 16th century;
plays, markets and other fun stuff.
10–14 July Gig Boat Adventure. Traditional
wooden motor boats travel together through the
Åland archipelago, with exciting shore excursions.
13 July Wooden boat meet in Degerby on Föglö.
The starting point for the race to the Maritime
Quarter in Mariehamn the following day.
13–18 July Åland Sea Days. A major nautical and
musical event. Sailing tours, motor boat competition,
wooden boat parade, sales of handicrafts,
food & drink and lots of fun for the kids. Musical
entertainment.
16–17 July Island in the Sun. Festival on Jurmo
for those who wish life was a pop song. Dip your
toes in the sea and listen to modern music from
Åland, Finland and Sweden.
18 July Canal Party in Lemland. Party alongside
the canal of Lemström to the east of Mariehamn.
Market stalls, canoeing & kayaking displays, music
and more.
23–31 July Rockoff Festival. Åland’s biggest
music event, with performances by major Finnish
and Swedish acts.
29–31 July Viking Market. The biggest event
of its type in Finland, with over 300 “Vikings” and
8000 visitors. Jesters, musicians, craftspeople, marketplace
and food & drink.
2–7 Aug Katrina Chamber Music. Annual chamber
music concert series with everything from lunchtime
and afternoon recitals to night-time concerts.
5–7 Aug Alandia Jazz Festival. Well-known jazz
festival with top class artists.
6–7 Aug Voices for the Baltic Sea. Harmonious
charity concert for the health of the Baltic Sea.
Great artists, beautiful music.
7 Aug Red Cross Market in Mariehamn. Find a
bargain at this traditional market.
7–8 Aug The Bomarsund days. An 1850s market
is held near the fortress ruins of Bomarsund with
food, theatre, handcraft demonstrations and tours.
18–22 Aug Paf Open. Beach Volley tournament
that’s being held in Åland for the third time. Part of
the international World Cup.
17–19 Sep Åland Harvest Festival. During Friday
and Saturday visit over 30 farms. Fill up your shopping
baskets on Sunday at the harvest market at
Åland’s rural centre (Landsbygdscentrum).
27 Nov “Little Christmas” market at the Jan
Karlsgården open-air museum in Sund.
5–6 Dec Traditional Christmas market at the
market square in Mariehamn.
