2.2 Standard Coding scheme for CROPS<br />

2.2.1 Reference : Agriculture Census 2000-2001 schedules & Instructions for <strong>Land</strong><br />

Record States<br />

2.2.2 Definition : It is the name <strong>of</strong> the field which is being used to capture information<br />

regarding Crops grown in referred plot <strong>of</strong> land. At present, the crops information is<br />

collected season wise by the revenue functionaries in the various states. There are around<br />

500 various types <strong>of</strong> crops grown with their variants which are stored in the database.<br />

2.2.3 Scope : The prime scope <strong>of</strong> the field is to describe crops grown in particular plot.<br />

Agriculture Census division <strong>of</strong> Ministry <strong>of</strong> Agriculture is a nodal agency which also<br />

conducts nation wide agriculture census across all the states. According to 2000-2001<br />

agriculture census , major crops <strong>of</strong> the country has been classified in nineteen groups.<br />

Each group may have 99 group members.<br />

For example Group “01” refers to cereals. In this group “Paddy 0101; Jowar 0102 etc<br />

have been enlisted. The Coding scheme is made up <strong>of</strong> four digits. A list <strong>of</strong> standard<br />

codes along with name <strong>of</strong> Crops is being given in <strong>Table</strong> 2.1- Standard Classification<br />

adopted for crops with digital coding scheme.<br />
