Chapter 7<br />

Ammunition And Explosives<br />

7000. TRANSPORTATION OF AMMUNITION AND EXPLOSIVES<br />

1. General. The most current editions of MCO P4400.150E w/ERRATUM,<br />

Consumer-Level Supply Policy Manual; MCO P8020.10A, <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Corps</strong> Management<br />

and Explosives Safety Policy Manual; and BO P8000.3, Ammunition and<br />

Explosives Safety (A&E Safety), [references (j), (k), and (l)] govern polices<br />

and procedures associated with the use, storage, and accountability of<br />

ammunition and explosives.<br />

2. Qualified Drivers. Drivers of any vehicle transporting ammunition or<br />

explosives a<strong>bo</strong>ard MCB, CamPen shall meet specific administrative and medical<br />

criteria. Drivers shall also complete the Explosives Driver Course. The POC<br />

is the Explosive Instructor at <strong>Base</strong> Safety (760) 725-9065.<br />

3. Privately Owned Vehicles (POVs). Using POVs a<strong>bo</strong>ard MCB, CamPen to load,<br />

store, or transport ammunition, pyrotechnics, or explosives of any kind, for<br />

military training is prohibited. Authorized users of ranges dedicated to<br />

recreational firing, and individuals authorized to hunt a<strong>bo</strong>ard <strong>Camp</strong><br />

<strong>Pendleton</strong>, are permitted to transport a reasonable amount of small arms<br />

ammunition when enroute to and from those activities.<br />

4. Ammunition Handling Facilities. Operations at ammunition handling<br />

facilities (e.g., LZ Red Beach, VSTOL Pad 1, CALSITE 21, VSTOL Pad 2 Aliso<br />

Canyon, and LZ Viewpoint) shall be conducted in the same manner as any other<br />

range during ammunition operations. It shall be scheduled, checked in and<br />

out by a qualified RSO, and communication shall be established and maintained<br />

with LONGRIFLE. Notify the Explosive Safety Office when an ammunition<br />

handling site has been scheduled [<strong>Base</strong> Safety Center (Explosive Safety<br />

Officer), MCB, CamPen or at (760) 763-4817. All operations are subject to<br />

BO P8000.3 and directives in the MCO 3570 series.<br />

7001. AMMUNITION HANDLING AND STORAGE<br />

1. General. Ammunition will be supplied as indicated below. Detailed<br />

information is contained in MCO P8020.10A, <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Corps</strong> Ammunition Management<br />

and Explosives Safety Policy Manual and BO P8000.3, Ammunition and Explosives<br />

Safety (A&E Safety) [references (k) and (l)].<br />

2. Ammunition Supply<br />

a. The Marksmanship Training Branch will supply ammunition for<br />

requalification firing, required by the most current edition of MCO 3574.2J,<br />

Entry Level and Sustainment Level Marksmanship Training with the M16A2<br />

Service Rifle and M9 Service Pistol [reference (b)] for Ranges 102, 103, 213,<br />

and 214 (Wilcox and Horno Range Complexes).<br />

b. The firing unit shall supply ammunition for field firing and other<br />

training.<br />

c. The firing unit shall supply ammunition for organizational,<br />

intramural, and recreational firing.<br />
