b. Individual vehicles shall display a red range flag while firing.<br />

While on the firing line, each vehicle shall display a green range flag when<br />

all weapons have been cleared. A yellow flag shall be displayed when there<br />

is a weapon malfunction.<br />

(1) The relationship between firing points and targets must meet the<br />

requirements listed in directives in the MCO 3570 series.<br />

(2) Prior to firing, the safety limits for each firing point will be<br />

physically marked on the ground only when moving into those positions to<br />

fire; ground marks are not required for static fire.<br />

(3) Live rounds shall not be chambered until the firing vehicle has<br />

reached the specified point on the range designated as a firing area. LAVs<br />

in an uploaded status shall have systems in <strong>bo</strong>th manual and electric-safe.<br />

3. Vehicle Crews. No weapons system shall be elevated a<strong>bo</strong>ve the line of<br />

sight to target, unless that weapons system has been determined to be clear<br />

of ammunition, or is required to be elevated a<strong>bo</strong>ve that line in order to be<br />

safely cleared.<br />

a. The clearing of any weapon shall be accomplished per the appropriate<br />

operator’s manual.<br />

b. Vehicle crews shall use range flags. It is the responsibility of the<br />

OIC and RSO to ensure compliance of proper range flag use.<br />

c. Prior to movement of any vehicle from designated firing areas, the<br />

RSO shall ensure all weapons systems are clear.<br />

d. The OIC and RSO shall ensure all personnel are thoroughly briefed in<br />

the correct procedures, listed below, for immediate action in case a round<br />

exits the authorized impact area (refer to paragraph 7010 of this Order).<br />

(1) All weapons systems shall cease-fire immediately.<br />

(2) The Tank/LAV Commander shall not disturb the lay of the gun in<br />

either elevation or deflection, unless immediate danger exists to personnel<br />

on<strong>bo</strong>ard the vehicle.<br />

(3) The OIC and RSO shall determine the magnetic azimuth at which the<br />

round was fired, and shall determine the existing elevation on the weapon.<br />

These procedures shall be followed so that an approximation of where the<br />

round would land can be achieved.<br />

(4) The RSO is required to notify LONGRIFLE immediately when an<br />

incident occurs. An approximation of how far the round traveled, and at<br />

what azimuth the round was fired, shall be included in the report.<br />

(5) A cease-fire will remain in effect until LONGRIFLE authorizes<br />

firing to resume.<br />

6025. POLICE OF TANK/LAV/AAV, AND OTHER VEHICLE CROSSINGS<br />

1. General. Commanding Officers, OICs, or NCOICs of vehicles using<br />

authorized tank crossings, or making an emergency crossing of hard-surfaced<br />

roads shall ensure crossings are properly policed immediately after use.<br />
