f. Pallets shall only be used for BZO or 10 meter machinegun qualifications.<br />

When engineer stakes are utilized to support pallets, they shall be<br />

placed on the outside edges of the pallet.<br />

6001. RANGE CONTROL FEATURES<br />

1. Range Signs and Markers. Range signs and markers are placed on all<br />

ranges, mortar positions, and artillery firing areas (AFAs) to indicate<br />

firing lines, lateral limits, range number, and other information. Firing<br />

lines and lateral limits are not indicated at mortar or artillery firing<br />

areas. The signs and markers are described below.<br />

a. Surveyed Monuments. A white concrete monument placed near the center<br />

of firing lines and AFAs.<br />

b. Firing Line Markers<br />

(1) Left. Small, white concrete monument.<br />

(2) Right. Small, red concrete monument.<br />

c. Range Limit Signs<br />

(1) Left. 4’ x 4’ to 12’ x 12’, white and black checker<strong>bo</strong>ard, square<br />

wood sign.<br />

(2) Right. 4’ x 4’ to 12’ x 12’, red and black checker<strong>bo</strong>ard, square<br />

wood sign.<br />

d. Range Number Signs. A sign bearing the range number for each range.<br />

e. Hearing Loss Signs. A sign warning users hearing protection devices<br />

are required.<br />

f. Off Limits Signs. A sign warning the area is off-limits by order of<br />

the Commanding Officer, MCB, unless scheduled through the Range Scheduling<br />

Office.<br />

g. Impact Area Signs. A sign warning personnel of live-fire impact<br />

areas.<br />

h. Additional signs outlining specific instructions or precautionary<br />

measures may be posted as deemed necessary by the AC/S, O&T.<br />

2. Barricades and Range Guards. Either barricades or range guards shall<br />

block normal approaches to danger areas created by firing. The RCO shall<br />

determine specific requirements.<br />

a. Barricades. Barricades, when required, shall be provided by the<br />

Range Operations Division for all roads and trails leading into range areas.<br />

There are two types of barricades listed below.<br />

(1) Portable barricades consisting of clearly visible sign, will be<br />

placed directly across the road. A sign stating, “Live-Firing in Progress,<br />

Keep Out” shall be attached to the barricade. The sign shall be clearly<br />

visible to anyone attempting to enter the range area.<br />
